Purpose & Commitment<\/h3>\n

Tennis NSW is committed to embracing diversity by ensuring our sport, programs and events are welcoming, safe and inclusive for everyone. We believe that being inclusive means reflecting the diversity of our local communities so that people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences can participate in tennis in a way that is positive and meaningful for them \u2014 regardless of their sex, sexuality, gender identity, expression or other defining characteristic.<\/p>\n

Inclusion is about providing choice for people to participate in sport in a way they feel comfortable. Alongside mainstream tennis offerings, there are a variety of LGBTQ+ initiatives and community\u2011driven events that people can choose to participate in and enjoy.<\/p>\n

Pride in Sport<\/h3>\n

Tennis NSW is a participating member of Pride in Spor<\/em><\/a>t<\/em>, an inclusion program delivered by ACON<\/a> designed to assist sporting organisations of all levels to include and celebrate people of diverse sexualities and genders across employees, coaches, volunteers, athletes and spectators.<\/p>\n

Pride in Sport Index<\/h3>\n

The Pride in Sport Index is co\u2011endorsed by the Australian Human Rights Commission<\/a> and Sport Australia<\/a> as a national benchmarking tool that specifically assesses LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport. It enables organisations to assess their performance, understand what constitutes good practice and benchmark initiatives against other sporting organisations.<\/p>\n

Tennis NSW has achieved Gold Tier status in the Pride in Sport Index for multiple years in recognition of our ongoing commitment to inclusion in tennis<\/p>\n

Transgender Inclusion Guidelines<\/h3>\n

Tennis NSW has developed Transgender Inclusion Guidelines for Community Tennis<\/strong> to support clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers in creating safe and affirming environments for people who identify as transgender. These guidelines also include practical tips on fostering positive experiences for all players.<\/p>\n

Dress Codes and Uniforms<\/h3>\n

All individuals should be able to work and play in a uniform that aligns with their sense of comfort and identity. Tennis NSW encourages flexible, gender\u2011inclusive dress codes that avoid basing uniform requirements on gender stereotypes. If gendered uniforms are used, clubs are encouraged to allow individuals a choice of which uniforms to wear, ensure a range of sizes and consider designs appropriate for all body types and expressions.<\/p>\n
