The 2019 Country Closed Championships are underway in Forster, with the Australian Money Tournament (AMT) completed on Monday the 8th, and the Junior Tournament (JT) also commencing on Monday, now into day two.

Winner of the AMT Men’s singles Brenton Chambers (North East) defeated close friend and coach Jonathan Cooper (Northumberland) 6-4 6-4 in a well fought match.

Grace Schumacher (Central West) was also matched with close friend and Forster local Laia Pasini (North East) 7-5 6-3.

The Country Championships has had some fantastic tennis on court, as well as off court activities and social tennis events.

JT players had the opportunity to be warmed up by National Academy and Talent Development Manager, Jaslyn Hewitt-Shehadie to prepare them for their week of tennis.

Forster Tennis Club welcomed the world record holder for the fastest serve, Sam Groth, tennis legends Mark Edmondson, Greg Healy, John Marks and Tennis New South Wales President Kim Warwick. Sam Groth visited three tennis venues in Forster-Tuncurry for autographs and photo opportunities with junior players, parents and spectators. Sam Groth and tennis legends sat down for a Q&A session to discuss all things tennis before taking to the court with amateur players from local businesses, sponsors and community groups for a night of social tennis.
