No.7 seed Daria Gavrilova is through to the last 16 of the Ladies Open Lausanne, but not without a fight.

The Australian was involved in a tough three-set encounter with Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon, eventually winning 7-5 4-6 6-3.

The players were evenly matched throughout with Gavrilova winning 109 points to In-Albon’s 100, but her higher percentage of winners on second serve proved the difference.

Gavrilova will face Switzerland’s Conny Perrin or Natalia Vikhlyantseva of Russia in round two.

Meanwhile, Caroline Garcia eased into last 16 with a straight-sets win over Antonia Lottner.

The world number 22, who lost in the first round at Wimbledon, won 6-2 6-3.

Eighth seed Eugenie Bouchard was beaten 2-6 6-4 7-5 by Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch.

At the Bucharest Open, Australia’s Jaimee Fourlis qualified for the main draw with a 6-3 4-6 6-2 win over Croatia’s Tereza Mrdeza.

Fourlis, the world No.284, plays Romanian wildcard Irina Bara in round one.

Second seed Viktoria Kuzmova had no difficulty in booking her place in the last 16 as she swept aside Dalila Jakupovic 6-2 6-2.

Sixth seed Laura Siegemund saw off Anhelina Kalinina 4-6 6-3 6-4, while Spaniard Aliona Bolsova came through 6-3 6-2 against Russia’s Varvara Flink.
