Ash Barty’s incredible US Open continued on Thursday evening, with the Australian combining with CoCo Vandeweghe to reach the US Open doubles final.

Barty and Vandeweghe defeated No.1 seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 6-4 7-6(6), winning on their third match point at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

In the final they will face second seeds Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, the reigning Australian Open champions.

“I think we won a few big points, especially in the tiebreaker, which certainly helped. But we weren’t far off on many of their service games. I felt like we were in most, if not all of them. And we were looking after our service games pretty well,” Barty told wtatennis.com.

“It’s always great to be playing on a final Sunday, particularly at a Slam. We’ve played well all week so this is a nice reward, but we have one more step to go.”

Babos and Mladenovic beat Australia’s Sam Stosur and Zhang Shuai of China 6-4 7-6(4).

Stosur and Zhang broke serve when Babos and Mladenovic served for the match at 6-4 5-4, but couldn’t keep that momentum going in the tiebreak.

Queensland’s Barty, who also reached the fourth round in singles at Flushing Meadows this fortnight before losing to Karolina Pliskova, advances to her fifth Grand Slam doubles final, and second in New York.

She partnered Casey Dellacqua in the finals of the first four, which came at all four major tournaments.

“Hopefully it’s fifth time lucky for me. We’ll see,” Barty said.

For Vandeweghe, it is her first Grand Slam women’s doubles final after she advanced to mixed doubles finals at Australian Open 2016 and US Open 2008.

Having joined up with Vandeweghe this season, the pair enjoyed almost instantaneous success, winning the Miami Open in just their second tournament as a team.

Barty and Vandeweghe improved their win-loss record in 2018 to 12-4 after beating Krejcikova and Siniakova, the Czech duo who won at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
