Eoin Brennan was just one of the Mudgee Young Guns playing at the Junior Champs

The Mudgee District Tennis Club Junior Club Championships were held on Saturday the 10th of December in perfect conditions for the players.

It was the first time that the Junior Club Championships were held since 2007, with the reinstatement of the Championships showing that the Club is back in a strong position.

Before the start of play, all participants were split into two divisions, the Open’s and Division 2, allowing for a consistent day of tennis to be played throughout.

In the Boy’s division, the Open’s Category came down to two players, Joshua Meers and Will Wiseman.

In the end, Meers was victorious taking out the Championship. Meers has shown considerable improvement throughout 2016 and is proving to be a potential force in the senior competition in a couple of years time.

Division 2 boys saw Sam Coburn and Eoin Brennan battle it out in the final, with Sam Coburn eventually coming out on top.

The Girl’s division saw Charlotte Roberts win the Open’s competition against Tasmin Cox. Lilly Murphy won the Division 2 girls with Tahlia Cooke the runner-up.

Head Coach Nathan Wilkins had nothing but praise for the juniors who played on Saturday – many of whom he has coached.

“It’s great to have this event back, and I’m happy it was supported well by the players. The level of tennis was fantastic and the hunger was impressive.”

The Junior Club Championships will officially be added to the 2017 Mudgee District Tennis Club Calendar, and it’s hopeful that the event will once again be supported well.
