Regional Tennis League starts in Mudgee

20 July 2016 |

In a new initiative for Tennis NSW, the Mudgee District Tennis Club are playing host to Dubbo and Bathurst Tennis Clubs this Sunday in the Regional Tennis League (RTL).

The Regional Tennis League is of the tennis’ new Fast4 Format – the tennis equivalent of Cricket’s Twenty20. The format is first to four games wins the set with a tie-breaker at 3-all. At deuce, the next point wins and there are no ‘lets’.

Mudgee will be fielding two teams to make up the 4 teams with Dubbo and Bathurst both fielding one side each.

Team 1 consists of: Brendan Kiley, Angus MacDonald, Greg Parrish, Tim Grace, Anna MacDonald and Trine Gay. While Team 2 consists of: Peter Robinson, Cameron Anderson, Mat Smith, Ashley Diprose, Carolyn Smith and Rachel Kearins.

“The inter-town element is really positive and reinforces the current growth in tennis” President of MDTC said about the RTL.

It provides an improved pathway for junior development and it’s really great to see Tennis NSW refocussing back onto Regional NSW”

Mudgee will then travel to both Dubbo and Bathurst as they take their turn in hosting the event. After the three legs are held, Mudgee will then host the Regional final. Once the winner is decided, that side will play at Sydney Olympic Park against the winners of all the other Regional Tennis League winners across NSW.
