Tennis doubles championships return

The Mudgee District Tennis Club’s Doubles Club Championships return for the second year running on May 22.

This year’s championships are already shaping to be the most competitive yet.

It’s been over 100 years since the first Club Championships were held in 1912.

Early indications are already pointing to some interesting match ups with Doubles pairing Peter Hiscott and Peter Robinson the most intriguing.

The pair took out the Club Championships over 15 years ago and are reunited this year with the hope that they’ll be once again on the honours board.

Hiscott is a former Mudgee District Tennis Coach and has previously won three Singles Championships, which will be held later in the year.

Since its reintroduction, the Club Championships have encouraged participation even more so than in previous years.

The tournament is structured in a knock-out format with teams who don’t proceed to the next stage having the chance to play for the Plate against competitors of similar playing ability.

The action will start around 9am with games being played right throughout the day.

It’s a family event with a jumping castle being available for the kids as well as a barbecue being put on at lunch time.

Registrations are now being taken for the Club Championships with both team entries and single entries being taken.

Register by emailing [email protected], visiting mudgeetennis.com or by putting your name down in the clubhouse.

The event will once again be sponsored by Flight Centre Mudgee.
