23 January 2014 |

Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka is the first man into the 2014 Australian Open men’s singles final.

Wawrinka earnt his spot in a semi-final victory against Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych tonight, winning 6-4 6-7(1) 7-6(3) 7-6(4).

The result propels Macclesfield-Echunga from South Australia one step closer to winning an AO Blitz town party.

Berdych was playing for Esperance in Western Australia, which is now out of the AO Blitz competition.

The other finalist will be decided tomorrow night when world number one Rafael Nadal, playing for Kendall in New South Wales, faces 17-time grand slam champion Roger Federer, playing for Penrith in New South Wales.

The men’s final will be played on Sunday night.

The result also ensures the men’s singles final will mirror the women’s singles final, pitting a South Australian town against a New South Wales town.

The women’s final, to be played on Saturday night, sees fourth seed Na Li, playing for South Australia’s Watervale, meet 20th seed Dominika Cibulkova, playing for New South Wales’ Warren.
