Longford Tennis Club

Then and Now

The Longford Tennis Club has a long and eventful history. Its origins are a bit sketchy but it was formed sometime in the late 19th century. The Club then joined the newly formed Northern Tasmanian Lawn Tennis Association in 1899. The Longford Lawn Tennis Club (as it was then known) had no shortage of competion, playing against such clubs as Bowlers, Entally, Epping, Mia Mia, Sandridge and Scone.
As well as better known clubs, Evandale, Launceston and Westbury. The local team known as the “LONGFORD ETCETERAS” was made up of well known citizens of the district including Doctors Haines and Stevenson, with Messrs A. Archer, and G. H. Arthur.
