Presiedn’t Update April 2015!

Just a quick note to update members on tennis events:

Be sure to register your interest in the Annual End-of-Season Round Robin Tournament to be held on Saturday, 18 April.  Registrations on the day open at 1.00 for a 1.30 (sharp) start.   It’s a great event and  costs $7 for Members;  $11.00 for Visitors and everyone is welcome.  As usual players will be divided into the A Group and B Group.  The format is designed so that no-one stays with the same partner and everyone has a fighting chance to take out the trophy.   Please bring a plate of savouries or sweets to share upstairs overlooking our beautiful courts at the conclusion of the tennis.

Novelty and traditional trophies will be presented.  There will be some great raffle prizes and Lucky Envelopes so make sure you put this date in your diary for an afternoon of good tennis and a lot of fun.

There will be a School Holiday Tennis Clinic from April 20 – 22nd.  See the Notice Board in the Club or go to www.tennis.com.au/kgltc for further information.

Last, but by no means least:  I wish to thank everyone involved with the recent Quiz Night.  It was an outstanding success.  Special thanks to our Quiz Master, John Lewis for the excellent presentation; to the members of the Committee & to other Tennis Members in general  who devoted so much time and effort in the weeks leading up to it and for their time and energy on the night;  to those who donated goods for prizes and for the Silent Auction.

I would like to make special mention of the generosity of a friend of the Tennis Club, acclaimed South Australian artist, Lyn Robins for donating one of her works entitled “Second Valley” for sale in the Silent Auction.  The painting will be available to purchase from David Sumner Gallery, Greenhill Road, Burnside, within the next two weeks.

Another artist and friend of the Tennis Club is Dr. Derek Rogers who donated two signed works that were sold at the Silent Auction.  “Thank you” to these generous and talented people for supporting our Club.

I hope members will take the opportunity to join us on Sundays from 11.30 for Tennis for all on ‘Social Sundays’.  It is a free day for members and just $5 for the whole afternoon for Visitors of all ages and ability.  On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month there is a free Sausage Sizzle at 12.00.  The season is drawing to a close very quickly so you will need to look lively to enjoy the last few weeks of it.

If anyone is interested in playing social tennis on hardcourt surface over Winter please contact me on 0438 843 148 to find out more information.  Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon, as well as other days by arrangement are all available at our neighbour’s courts just up the road at ETKG.  I have had some productive discussions with their President and we are keen to establish reciprocal arrangements, so let’s see if we can muster some good numbers to get this off the ground.

Congratulations to Arnaud Vinnel for taking out this season’sSMMLTA Best Player Award 2015 Division 4 Kensi Blue Team.Pictured here with doubles partner Alex Endenburg on left.DSCF1390
