 Kensi Kwizz with Fizz

Our Annual Quiz Night is just around the corner on Sat, 28 March. 7 for 7.30 start at the Club. $15 pp – no BYO but generous Club prices from the bar.  Free glass of Mint Julep (alcohol or plain) on arrival.  This year’s theme is “Kwizz with Fizz”.  Bring along your friends and basket supper. As usual we have great prizes & can guarantee a lot of fun. Our ever-popular  Quiz Master is John Lewis who is already testing his grey matter to test yours – so don’t miss out!  As this is one of our major fund-raising events, there will be a Raffle, Lucky Dip (thanks to Ian Cooper for managing this again) and a Silent Auction.

To book a table of 8, or come along solo, please let me know by return email addressed “Attention Gloria” or write your name on the list in the Club.  If you book a table of 8 simply write your own name at the top and put a diagonal line through the other 7 places.  By doing this, your friends will only need to ask for ‘your’ table when they arrive instead of searching for a particular table number.

If you can’t make up a table of 8 but would like to attend, simply write your name on the list with Number One alongside and we will try to make up a group for you.   Hopefully the Club will be bursting at the seams for this popular event so be sure to book early!

We have received a most generous donation for the Silent Auction.  It’s a painting titled “Second Valley” SA,  by acclaimed South Australian Artist, Lyn Robins.  The painting has been conservatively valued at $1500 and will go into the Auction at a starting price of $800 unless sold beforehand. 2015 Brunch photo #2 of painting cropped

There is a faint photo of it (taken at the recent Brunch) on our link on the Tennis SA site:  http://www.tennis.com.au/gkltc  If anyone is interested to view the painting prior to the Quiz Night, I can arrange for inspection of it.  Please contact my mobile 0438 843 148 to make arrangements to do so.

Two of our regular donors have retired from their businesses so I am on the hunt for donations of goods that would be suitable for the Lucky Dip, Spot Prizes or anything that would be appropriate to be included in a gift basket for the winners and runners-up.  It’s not too soon to contact me if you are able to contribute anything towards the success of the evening.  Vouchers for goods and/or services are always acceptable and many businesses are pleased to provide them, so please don’t hesitate to ask around!!  I am available on my mobile most of the time –or you may send me an email to the Club, or my private email which is  [email protected]

Round Robin

The next function on our Agenda is the End-of-Season Round Robin open to all comers.  Special thanks to Colin Parker for agreeing to run it again this year.  It will be held on Saturday, 18th April from 1.00 for a 1.30 (sharp) start.  Cost is $7 for members;  $11 for visitors.  Please bring a plate of savoury or sweets to share upstairs when we finish for presentations and drawing of the raffle.  The Bar will be open for drinks at generous Club Prices.  Please try to book early as it will help to have names in advance so that Colin can prepare the draw in readiness for the 1.30 start.  There is a poster on the Tennis Noticeboard by the stairs, so please book your spot early as numbers are limited by the number of courts available.

If you are able to attend both these events you would have exercised mind and body!  In doing so you would have contributed to the Club’s Fund-Raising efforts, so necessary in these times of escalating costs for everything it takes to maintain our beautiful courts and facilities.

 Growth Spurt

Our Junior Development Program is coming along well – thanks to Rob Endenburg and his enthusiastic team.  So much so that some of the parents have indicated an interest to learn, or to resume tennis after long intervals away from the sport.  Rob is looking for donations of good, used racquets to borrow or keep.  It doesn’t matter if they are children’s racquets or for adults as some older children have come along without racquets and it would be good for them to use Club racquets until we can determine the size they should buy.  We don’t need very small racquets as we have some of those in the HotShots ‘starter kit’ from Tennis SA.  If you can help, please contact Rob on 0432 994 170. DSCF1354

Entertainment Books

We have been invited to sell these again for the 2015/16 season and the commission goes towards the whole Club – i.e., Tennis & Bowls. I am happy to take on the job again this year. If anyone is interested to purchase a copy/copies please let me know as soon as possible.

Skye Cellars Sponsorship

The four varieties of our Tennis Club wine are still available at 2014 prices and the Club receives $1 for every bottle sold by the case (12 bottles).

Order forms are available on our website and completed forms sent to me at the address on the form.  Skye Cellars delivers the wine free of charge to anywhere in mainland Australia.  If you haven’t had opportunity to try the wine it is available from both Bars.  Try it by the glass and you’ll soon be buying value-for-money wine by the bottle!  Mixed dozens are available or you might like to share a case with a friend.  Give it a whirl!

Kind regards,

Gloria Sumner,
