Latest News September 13th 2014

Good morning everyone:

Just a quick reminder about today’s Free Wine Tasting at the Club from 4.00 – 5.00 featuring wine selected by our Major Sponsor, Skye Cellars.  All the wine presented today may be purchased by the case, and delivered free of charge to anywhere in mainland Australia.  Take advantage of today’s prices which are available for a limited time and place an order on the specially-prepared form available at the Tasting Table in the Clubrooms.

This event was planned to introduce our wine to the Bowling community at Kensi at the end of their practice match today.  If you’d like to watch some good bowling and try “a little beverage or two”, see how the footy’s going on our TV; fortify yourself with a sizzling sausage – you may end the day better informed about wine, food and lawn bowls than you’d ever imagined.  Why not give it a go??

Here’s the News Flash

I’m delighted to announce that we have been invited by Tennis SA and Tennis Australia (confirmed yesterday) to host one of four “Win a Wildcard” events in SA – the only one to be held in the Adelaide Metropolitan Area.  The winner of the event wins a Wildcard Entry into the Australian Open, so we can expect to see some great tennis!

The event to be held at our Club is on Sunday, 19 October next from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.  This is a terrific opportunity to showcase our Club whilst earning extra $ for the kitty.  Because this is a charity event there is only a nominal fee to be paid for use of the courts;  however, one of the requirements of the Host Club is that –we provide a canteen for the day and ensure that it is open and staffed.  Other requirements are:                      Ensure all courts are available and in reasonable condition;

Provide help to Tennis SA staff on putting up signage and       Tournament desk (2-3 people for 2-3 hours, day prior to the event).

The entry process is set up by Tennis Australia, all entries must be taken online. Players must be 18 or over to enter. For more information on the entry process please see this linkhttps://winawildcard.aoblitz.com.au/    Draws, schedules and communications will be managed by Tennis SA and Tennis Australia with all information available online.

This is short notice, I know, but I wonder if members would consider how they might contribute to the success of this event.  I would be grateful to receive offers of goodies baked for sale in the canteen and offers of help to make sandwiches to sell.  We will need help in the bar and to cook sausages on the barbecue.  I’m not sure what time the 2-3 people will be needed the day before (as mentioned above) as I don’t have all the details at this stage.

If you are able to help in any way I’d be glad to hear from you.  Please contact me at either email address:  [email protected](checked daily) or the Club email [email protected] (checked regularly through the week) or on my mobile 0438 843 148.

The days leading up to this are going to be very busy:

Saturday, 11th starting at 10.00 a.m. is the “Come and Try Tennis Day” – a big event, especially for the younger fry, with registrations for the ANZ Hot Shots Program.  We hope to have a very special guest to launch that Program.

Our Director of Junior Development, Rob Endenburg, sent information earlier in the week about our new website hosted by Tennis SA and designed by Rob.  As part of our attachment to the Tennis SA site they publicize our events.  You will see from this link – http://freetennisdays.aoblitz.com.au/events/view/kensington-gardens-lawn-tennis-c that our engagement with them is invaluable.

Saturday 11th October is the first Saturday after the long week-end when Social Tennis really gets off to a flying start.  We’re going to try starting at 1.00 o’clock this season so the early birds will have plenty of tennis.  They may be worn out at the end of the day but they will get plenty of tennis.  What a way to go!!  Our traditional ‘Opening Day’ Afternoon Tea at 3.00 might be just the thing to revive weary legs.
