Club Update - April 2018

Night Tennis

Term one of night tennis was a big success with 40 players and lots of new faces. The last night of finals was rained out.  To start off Term 2 (16th April)  we will have a replay of finals night with the Bendigo Breakers lead by Aiden Griffin playing Aon Aces with Kris Fabbro as their leader.  These teams were equal on points with both teams having 1 loss and 3 wins.  Dallan Garvey’s Credit Union Crushers will play Ben Wharton’s Wilmar Winners. These teams were also equal on points. Players from BAE will be slotted in so there is a game for everyone.  This is also a gradings night. Please encourage new players to come down on this night. It would be fantastic to get even more faces down at night tennis.  It is a great warm up for the Sugar Bowl too.  Fixtures with new teams will start the following week on the 23rd April. The bar is always open after night tennis and it is a good way to cool off and share in camaraderie and a joke or two.

Sugar Bowl 5-7 May

The 38th Sugar Bowl is coming soon so get excited! As in previous years the committee are looking for your support on this weekend.  This is our single best fund raiser for the year.   These funds are used to pay our interest free loan back to the council that we have used to upgrade our facilities. There is a lot of planning and hard work that goes into this event.  It doesn’t just happen. We are asking that every member contributes some time for this fantastic event.  There is preparation before the event, bar and canteen workers required, cooking and cleaning up at the end. Oh and don’t forget there is to tennis to play as well which is a lot of fun for all. Teams often have team shirts/caps. Please support your club by getting involved.  Please let Col know if you want to play and are not in a team yet.

Friday social tennis

Friday morning social tennis (8.30 – 10.30) has begun.  It is for both males and females. For more information contact Del Hocking 0410014564.  They are always looking for more players so your presence would be welcome.

Junior Tournament 10-11 March

Many thanks to those of you who came down to help at the tournament.  This is a way that we can both show case tennis in the Burdekin and raise some much needed funds for our club through canteen sales.

Queen’s Baton Relay – 19 March

Many thanks to Liz Shepherdson and Arron Klumpp for giving up their time to showcase Home Hill Tennis. Hopefully we will get some more members and interest in our facility from this day.
