October News - play back on again

20 October 2020 |

Hi to all Glen Huntly Tennis Club Members and Friends,

Great news that our Courts will be open for use from 9am this Thursday 22nd October.

We’ve done quite a lot of maintenance over the last six weeks, including today adding clay and en tout cas to build up the surfaces. Our courts should play well.

For the next week or two, Tennis Victoria (& Victorian Government) guidelines mean we are limited to:

  • No more than 10 people (plus coach and assistants, plus volunteers supervising the tennis) may be within court fences for casual play and coaching.
  • Apart from coaching, playing is ‘first come first on court’ – if all courts are used and players are waiting, please play up to 20 minutes and rotate (you can play again on next rotation).
  • Casual play – play when you want to play, up to two households on a court . So it’s mostly singles, but doubles can be played by people from one or two households per court. Let us know if your household has two players and we’ll try to help you with another household to play doubles. Club-organised Social Tennis will now resume on Sundays from 1pm-5pm (we’ll supply tennis balls) and Mondays from 5.30pm.
  • Coaching – up to two households on a court. Coach can be on court with players from one household or can be beside the court whilst players from up to two households hit to each other.
  • Hygiene – Each player is required to wear your own face mask when travelling to or from the courts, between sets or when watching or waiting. Each player is also required to bring your own full water bottle, hand sanitiser and clean hand towel or wet wipes. Please wash your hands at home before and after play, use sanitiser before and after play and cover your mouth/nose to cough/sneeze. Please stay away or go home if you feel unwell, have any COVID-19 symptoms or have had recent contact with anyone with COVID-19. Please practice social distancing (1.5 metres apart) as far as possible. Touch racquets, no “high fives” or shaking hands.
  • The toilets can be used if necessary, rest of clubhouse is closed –  Do not use showers, changerooms or kitchen etc.
  • Record all coaching and social players and visitors for contact tracing if needed – please put your details in the folder (at the clubhouse veranda or with coach Phil) or email names and contact details to [email protected]. Please download the COVIDSafe app.

OTHER STUFF

Competition: It’s likely that an announcement will be made next Sunday or the following one that competition tennis can resume.

Probably that will also mean that limits will be relaxed or removed on total numbers and the playing of doubles.

We’ll let you know quickly as things change.

Book-a-Court: You may have noticed, with our all-new fences, that  there’s a large new central gate to the courts near the front of the Clubhouse. This is for Book-a-Court, an automated system to enable visitors to hire courts that are not being used and to pay for them online and enter through the gate with a code given to them for their paid time. Tennis Victoria and the Council who are paying for the initial installation.  Over the next month or so we’ll finalise details with them.

Other Plans: We’re finalising plans for the next few months and we’ll let you know details soon, including a round-robin comp for our juniors and some other ideas.

And for everyone, pop down to play when you get a chance.

Cheers,
