Belconnen Tennis Club (BTC) has a long and successful history with ACT competitive tennis. We encourage members of all levels to have fun participating in the tennis leagues.

Q: What is the Canberra Tennis League?

A: It’s a series of interclub team competitions that run in the summer, autumn, winter and spring. The three leagues take place on Monday/Tuesday night (unisex singles and doubles), Thursday night (mixed competition) and Saturday afternoon (unisex singles and doubles). For details see the Tennis ACT website. 

Q: Is there a minimum standard to play league tennis and is it very competitive? 

A: There is a range of divisions to suit different standards of play. You need to have a good grasp of the rules of tennis and the scoring system. BTC encourages you to have fun, improve your tennis and connect with others. 

Q: How do I know what division I belong in? 

A: The best way is to attend BTC social tennis and speak to the social coordinator. You can also get a lesson or two from Coach Jeff Gray or email the BTC League Play4Belco@gmail.com Coordinator.

Q: Do I have to be a BTC member? 

You have to be a member of an ACT tennis club, preferably BTC. 

Q: Do I need to be in a team before nominating to play league tennis? 

A: No. You can organise your own team or the BTC League Coordinator will try to find one for you. 

Q: Do I have to commit to play every week? 

A: The leagues run from 6 to 10 weeks. It is best to make yourself available for the entire season. However, teams commonly have extra players who rotate through the season. Your team captain will consult with you in organising the roster. You can also reserve for a BTC team or an entire division which means you will be asked to play when a regular team member cannot. 

Q: How do I register for the Canberra Tennis League?

Once you are a member, you can register via the Tennis ACT Match Centre.
