{"id":9861,"date":"2016-11-04T21:47:59","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T10:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=9861"},"modified":"2016-11-04T21:47:59","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T10:47:59","slug":"bai-flies-canberras-flag-for-doubles-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/11\/04\/bai-flies-canberras-flag-for-doubles-final","title":{"rendered":"Bai flies Canberra&#8217;s flag for Doubles Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra\u2019s own <strong>Alison Bai<\/strong> will step onto Centre Court for the women\u2019s doubles final on Day 9 of the <strong>Apis Canberra International<\/strong>, along with partner <strong>Lizette Cabrera<\/strong> (QLD).<\/p>\n<p>Bai and Cabrera will play second seeds <strong>Jessica Moore <\/strong>(WA) and<strong> Storm Sanders<\/strong> (QLD) in the doubles decider, having dispatched the top seeds <strong>Arina Rodionova<\/strong> (VIC) and <strong>Asia Muhammad<\/strong> (USA) in a tense semi-final clash, 6-3, 3-6, 10-2.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s doubles final will also feature all-Australian line up, with top seeds <strong>Matt Reid <\/strong>(NSW) and<strong> John-Patrick Smith<\/strong> (QLD) facing second seeds <strong>Luke Saville <\/strong>(SA) and<strong> Jordan Thompson<\/strong> (NSW).<\/p>\n<p>Victorian <strong>Omar Jasika<\/strong> has stormed into the men\u2019s singles semi-finals, achieving his best ever ATP Challenger Tour result.\u00a0 Jasika, the 2014 US Open Junior champion, has reached three ATP Challenger Tour quarter-finals without managing to progress any further. Today, he easily accounted for qualifier <strong>Greg Jones<\/strong> (NSW) 6-3, 6-1 in just 74 minutes. Jasika will meet ninth seed and four time ITF Pro Circuits champion <strong>Marc Polmans<\/strong> in tomorrow\u2019s semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p>Top seed <strong>Jordan Thompson<\/strong> (NSW) continued his three week ATP Challenger Tour unbeaten streak with a straight sets victory over Queenslander <strong>John-Patrick Smith<\/strong> 6-1 7-6(5). \u00a0In the last quarter final result for the day, <strong>James Duckworth <\/strong>streamed through, eliminating the last international player remaining in the men\u2019s draw, qualifier <strong>Daniel Masur<\/strong> (GER), 6-1, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s draw, two Australians started the day, but were unable to progress to the semi-finals.\u00a0 Fifth seed Victorian <strong>Arina Rodionova<\/strong> went down to top seed <strong>Risa Ozaki<\/strong> from Japan 6-4, 6-3 and <strong>Tammi Patterson<\/strong> (VIC) was eliminated by Italian qualifier <strong>Georgia Brescia<\/strong> 6-1, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>Ozaki, winner of last week\u2019s Bendigo International, will meet <strong>Jennifer Elie<\/strong> from the United States in the semi-finals after Elie eliminated sixth seed and 2015 Canberra International finalist, <strong>Eri Hozumi <\/strong>from Japan 7-5, 6-3.\u00a0 Brescia will take on seventh seed <strong>Jana Fett<\/strong> tomorrow after she eliminated <strong>Yuuki Tanaka<\/strong> (JPN) 6-2, 6-1.<\/p>\n<p>On Day 9, play gets underway at 11:00am with the singles semi-finals. Two men\u2019s and two women\u2019s matches will determine the finals for Sunday.
