{"id":9848,"date":"2016-11-03T20:20:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-03T09:20:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=9848"},"modified":"2016-11-03T21:14:42","modified_gmt":"2016-11-03T10:14:42","slug":"aussies-charge-into-quarter-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/11\/03\/aussies-charge-into-quarter-finals","title":{"rendered":"Aussies charge into quarter finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The strength of the Australian men\u2019s contingent at the Apis Canberra International is on full display at tomorrow\u2019s quarter-finals with seven out of eight spots going to Aussies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan Thompson <\/strong>(NSW), <strong>James Duckworth<\/strong>\u00a0(NSW) and <strong>John-Patrick Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(QLD) are the latest to progress through to the quarter-finals after a successful Day 6.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson easily accounted for <strong>Matthew Ebden <\/strong>(WA), only dropping two games in a 6-0, 6-2 walkover.<\/p>\n<p>Top seed Thompson will tomorrow face eighth seed John-Patrick Smith, who also played out a reasonably one-sided second-round clash with <strong>Vijay Prashanth<\/strong> (IND), taking just under an hour to cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 win.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing the run of straight sets victories in the second-round, fifth seed Duckworth notched up a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win against <strong>Sumit Nagal <\/strong>(IND).<\/p>\n<p>In the final men\u2019s singles match of Day 6,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Masur<\/strong> (GER) knocked out Maverick Banes (QLD)\u00a07-6(2), 6-3 after pushing the first set to two tie-breaks.<\/p>\n<p>Masur will be the sole international through to the quarter-finals when he meets Duckworth on Day 7.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s competition, two Australians remain after the second round, fifth seed <strong>Arina Rodionova<\/strong>\u00a0(VIC) and <strong>Tammi Patterson <\/strong>(VIC)\u00a0are left to fly the flag.<\/p>\n<p>Rodionova took almost an hour and a half to finish off the competition hopes of Queensland teen <strong>Olivia Tjandramulia<\/strong> 6-2, 7-5. She will meet top seed <strong>Risa Ozaki<\/strong> tomorrow at 11am on Centre Court, the opening match of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Patterson\u00a0(VIC) outplayed <strong>Zuzana Zlochova<\/strong> from the Slovak Republic winning 6-4, 6-4 in 69 minutes.\u00a0 Patterson will now take on Italian qualifier <strong>Georgia Breschia<\/strong> who caused the upset of the day by eliminating second seed <strong>Hiroko Kuwata <\/strong>(JPN).<\/p>\n<p>Canberra girl<strong> Alison Bai<\/strong> and partner <strong>Lizette Cabrera<\/strong> (QLD) progressed to tomorrow\u2019s doubles semi-final with a tight 6-4, 7-5 quarter-final victory over Victorians Tammi Patterson and <strong>Sally Peers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow\u2019s order of play includes all of the singles quarter-finals together with all of the doubles semi-finals.
