Indonesian tennis official<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/span>Herta Sekar Pandansari <\/span><\/strong>was<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>give<\/span>n the opportunity by Tennis Australia to showcase her officiating skills in Australia <\/span>as a chair umpire at the Apis Canberra International 2016 <\/strong>in Canberra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Herta lives in the city of Bandung, where she has officiated National tournaments. The largest tournament she ever officiated was a $10,000 tournament, compared to the combined men’s and women’s $100,000 Apis Canberra International.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tennis is not as\u00a0popular in Indonesia as other countries, so she\u00a0looked around the globe to broaden her experience officiating tennis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my first time here and the first time for the Pro Tour,” she said. “It’s like so exciting and really new.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Tennis Australia selected Herta to come to Australia after she applied to officiate the tournament.\u00a0<\/b>Impressed by the size of the venue in Lyneham, Herta has appreciated\u00a0help she has received from the people of Canberra.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe venue for me is so big,\u201d she said. \u201cThe people also. They like help me a lot, for everything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Officials adviser to Tennis Australia,\u00a0<\/span>Emma Walter<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>said Tennis Australia has exchanges with different countries so officials like Herta can visit and work at Pro Tour level events.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for Australian officials and the players to see different people and to see how they officiate,\u201d Emma said. \u201cAnd also for them to develop skills and develop their officiating so they can take it back home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon heading\u00a0home to Indonesia, Herta will take new knowledge and experience with her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[I learned] a lot,\u201d she said. \u201cLike how I umpire. I get a lot of stuff here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite only visiting Canberra for five days, Herta has enjoyed the experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy it every day,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n
