{"id":9783,"date":"2016-11-01T21:37:26","date_gmt":"2016-11-01T10:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=9783"},"modified":"2016-11-01T21:37:26","modified_gmt":"2016-11-01T10:37:26","slug":"smashing-contest-masur-defeats-trungelliti-on-day-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/11\/01\/smashing-contest-masur-defeats-trungelliti-on-day-4","title":{"rendered":"Smashing contest: Masur defeats Trungelliti on day 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fourth seed and Traralgon semi-finalist,\u00a0<strong>Marco Trungelliti<\/strong>\u00a0(ARG) had his impressive run, since arriving in Australia last Tuesday, halted on Day 4 at the Apis Canberra International by\u00a0<strong>World No. 300<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Masur <\/strong>from Germany.<\/p>\n<p>In what was the longest match of the day, qualifier Masur\u00a0outplayed an at times frustrated Trungelliti, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 &#8211; a marathon 2 hour and 17 minute match to complete.<\/p>\n<p>South Australian and last year\u2019s Canberra International runner-up <strong>Luke Saville<\/strong> failed to advance to the second round, losing to <strong>Vijay Prashanth<\/strong>\u00a0(IND) in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p>Top seed <strong>Jordan Thompson<\/strong>\u00a0(NSW) followed on from his victory on Sunday at the <strong>Latrobe City Traralgon International<\/strong> with a comfortable\u00a0victory over\u00a0<strong>Matt Reid <\/strong>(NSW) 6-1, 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s field, Victorian<strong> Tammi Patterson <\/strong>caused the upset of the day, easily accounting for eighth seed<strong> Shuko Aoyama<\/strong> (JPN) 6-3, 6-0 in just 65 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Patterson, ranked 391 in the world, will be looking to capitalise on her good form, after making the quarter finals in Bendigo last month.<\/p>\n<p>Young 16-year-old Victorian and runner-up at the 2016 <strong>ACT\u00a0Claycourt International<\/strong>, <strong>Destanee Aiva<\/strong>\u00a0added to her honor roll of great results in the nation&#8217;s capital with a tight first round victory over fellow Victorian wildcard entry\u00a0<strong>Sally Peers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And regular Australian visitor <strong>Zuzana Zlochova<\/strong> from the Slovak Republic had a tight victory over Queenslander <strong>Sara Tomic <\/strong>6-3, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Day 5 of the Apis Canberra International\u00a0is set to welcome fifth seed <strong>Arina Rodionova<\/strong>\u00a0(VIC) to the program, when she takes on Canberran <strong>Alison Bai<\/strong>.
