{"id":9725,"date":"2016-10-29T16:57:43","date_gmt":"2016-10-29T05:57:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=9725"},"modified":"2016-10-30T12:20:05","modified_gmt":"2016-10-30T01:20:05","slug":"qualifying-under-way-at-apis-canberra-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/10\/29\/qualifying-under-way-at-apis-canberra-international","title":{"rendered":"Qualifying under way at Apis Canberra International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Action got under way today at the <strong>Apis<\/strong> <strong>Canberra International <\/strong>at the <strong>Canberra Tennis Centre. <\/strong>A number of Australian\u2019s progressed to the final round of qualifying, while local hopes <strong>James Frawley<\/strong>, [WC] <strong>Jarred Wynan<\/strong> and [WC] <strong>Dimitri Morogiannis, <\/strong>fell in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>In a hard fought match, Germany\u2019s <strong>Daniel <\/strong><strong>Masur<\/strong> defeated Wynan, a local Canberra Tennis Centre coach and player, in straight sets after a 9 point tie break in the first game.<\/p>\n<p>World No. 99 <strong>Y<\/strong><strong>oshihito Nishioka<\/strong> (JPN) proved too strong for Frawley, taking the match in two brief sets, the match over in just 44 minuets. Nishioka will now face South Australian <strong>Nathan Eshmade<\/strong> in round 3 of qualifying on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>In the closing centre court match of the day, Morogiannis took on 27-year-old and fellow Aussie, <strong>Greg Jones (NSW)<\/strong>. Jones, ranked 29 in Australia, knocked out 17-year-old Morogiannis in straight sets, taking the match 6-0, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Several Australian\u2019s progressed through to the final round of qualifying, including [4] <strong>S<\/strong><strong>teven<\/strong><strong> De Waard<\/strong> (QLD) knocking out [WC] <strong>Patrick Fitzgerald<\/strong> (AUS) in straight sets. De Waard will now face vs <strong>Scott Puodziunas<\/strong> (Qld) who defeated [7] <strong>A<\/strong><strong>aron<\/strong><strong> Addison<\/strong> (AUS) 6-2, 6-1.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying will continue tomorrow from 9am with\u00a0women&#8217;s ITF singles qualifying set to commence from 9am and men&#8217;s round 3 qualifying from 10am.
