{"id":9611,"date":"2016-10-11T16:09:36","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T05:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=9611"},"modified":"2016-10-11T16:13:15","modified_gmt":"2016-10-11T05:13:15","slug":"an-outstanding-period-for-act-athletes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/10\/11\/an-outstanding-period-for-act-athletes","title":{"rendered":"Impressive month for ACT Athletes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been an outstanding period for some of ACT&#8217;s elite players.<\/p>\n<p>On October 10,<strong> Nick Kyrgios<\/strong> won his third ATP title for 2016, when he took out the Japan Open (an ATP 500 series event).\u00a0As a result, Nick hit a career high ranking on <strong>No.14 in the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nick is now the highest ever ranked ACT player, eclipsing <strong>Wally Masur&#8217;s<\/strong> high of No.15 in the World, achieved back in 1993!<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations Nick. We wish you all the best for the remainder of 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Frawley<\/strong> had a successful first week back from injury at the Brisbane Pro event. He came through the qualifying draw and won his first round match to gain his first singles world ranking point. He also made the doubles final with his partner, <strong>Harry Bourchier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There were also some notable results for some of our best junior players.<\/p>\n<p>13-year-old <strong>Annerly Poulos<\/strong> had an exceptional month of tennis, reaching the final of the Canberra Silver AMT\u00a0andthe quarter-finals of the Sydney ITF. She then followed that up by winning the <strong>Canberra Junior International <\/strong>on September 23.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>One week later, she back this up by reaching\u00a0the girls final of the <strong>14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships<\/strong> on September 29.<\/p>\n<p>Through her outstanding results, Annerly was selected as the Australian representative to take part in the 14\/u<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>WTA Future Stars\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Junior Road to Singapore\u00a0<\/strong>event. This event is held in Singapore at the same time as the <strong>BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global<\/strong>, which will feature the top eight WTA singles players, and top eight doubles teams.\u00a0Annerly will train with and compete against the best 14\/u girls from Asia. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/10\/05\/singapore-bound-wta-future-star-poulos\">More.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also doing well in ITF events, 16-year-old National Academy ACT scholarship holder, <strong>Lisa Mays<\/strong>, who\u00a0won back to back ITF singles titles in New Zealand. As a result, Lisa moved her ranking to a career high 183 in the world. Lisa also won 3 ITF doubles titles along the way, partnering ACT player <strong>Tallulah Farrow<\/strong> in the third event. Congratulations Lisa on very successful month of tennis!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Kaitlin Staines<\/strong> secured a <strong>WTA Ranking<\/strong> by reaching the second round, twice, in pro tour events in Queensland.
