As Canberra welcomes back international tennis to the newly redeveloped Canberra Tennis Centre, Lyneham with the ACT Clay Court International, we also host a number of local and international umpires.<\/p>\n
Officials are servicing this event from NSW, Queensland and from as far away as Brazil and the United States.<\/p>\n
We also have a large contingent from the ACT \u2013 people who have recently completed their line umpire course and working their first professional event to people who have come from a successful showing at the Australian Open and recent summer of tennis.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ACT Clay Court International is a perfect opportunity for our local umpires to get exposure to an elite level of tennis and to learn from their interstate and international colleagues\u201d says Martin Oosthuysen, NSW\/ACT Officiating Development Coordinator.<\/p>\n
The ACT event is also perfect preparation for local ACT Official, Emma Walter, who has been selected to officiate at Roland Garros in May 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very excited about the opportunity to further develop my clay court skills here at my local courts at Lyneham and put these skills into action at the French Open\u201d says Emma Walter.<\/p>\n
All these local and international officials started their journey through a line umpire course and on court practical sessions with the support of local officials.<\/p>\n
