Jerrabomberra Tennis Club’s new clubhouse was officially opened by Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall on Sunday 14 February.\u00a0 The opening was held in conjunction with the Noel Murray junior tournament and also featured an exhibition match between Canberra Velocity players and the Jerrabomberra club coaches.<\/p>\n
The new clubhouse has been the results of an eight month construction period which has seen their previous\u00a0tiny clubhouse demolished and replaced with a brand new building featuring a kitchenette, spacious viewing area, and male, female, and disabled toilets.\u00a0 The building features several energy saving devices including sensor controlled lighting and water conservation initiatives.\u00a0 The project was made possible through a loan, council grants, financial contributions from the club, volunteer labour and generous donations from the local businesses.<\/p>\n
The official opening featured speeches from Club President John Talbot, Club Patron Ros Murray, as well as Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall.\u00a0 Talbot and Overall unveiled the plaque officially opening the facitiliy and acknowledging the many contributors to the project.\u00a0 The club also took the opportunity to recognise several volunteers who have made significant contributions to the club.\u00a0 Nick Former and Angela Okines were names as 2015 Club Persons of the Year, while Lou Forner and Gary Cameron were recognized for their valuable contributions towards the building of the new clubhouse.<\/p>\n
An exhibition match was held\u00a0with Canberra Velocity players, Kaitlin Staines and Jarred Wynan, playing against Jerrabomberra Tennis Club coaches David Horsfall and Adam Bradley.\u00a0 The match was played using the FAST4 format, with some high quality tennis on display.<\/p>\n
It was a busy weekend for the club, with the annual Noel Murray junior tournament also being held.\u00a0 Nick Forner won the Division 1 Boys singles, while Kristina Veskovic won the Division 1 Girls Singles.\u00a0 Luke Bradley and Jack Dempsey took out the Division 1 Boys Doubles.<\/p>\n
