{"id":8181,"date":"2016-01-29T12:25:44","date_gmt":"2016-01-29T01:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=8181"},"modified":"2016-01-29T12:25:44","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T01:25:44","slug":"act-umpires-on-court-at-the-australian-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/01\/29\/act-umpires-on-court-at-the-australian-open","title":{"rendered":"ACT Umpires On-Court at the Australian Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As ACT tennis fans enjoy watching the recent return of professional tennis to the Canberra Tennis Centre and following their favourites at the Australian Open, many locals have been enjoying the action up close.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve ACT officials have been working at this year\u2019s Australian Open, amongst over 300 national and international umpire\u2019s involved in the servicing of the year\u2019s first grand slam.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst this group are three people experiencing their first Australian Open \u2013 Chris Andrews, Marc Vandenbroucke and Guy Sancataldo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been such a great experience being part of an international officiating team and learning from each other\u201d shares Chris Andrews<\/p>\n<p>Marc Vandenbroucke, who also had the opportunity to work the 2015 and 2016 Apia Sydney International explains \u201cThe best thing about umpiring is the opportunity to work at professional tournaments like the Apia and the Australian Open. You have the best seat in the house, seeing these players on court and in the corridors \u2013 a fantastic way to further explore your interest in tennis\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Guy Sancataldo, who has worked as a ballkid at the Apia Sydney International and the recent Canberra Challengers is excited about the transition from being on court collecting the balls to calling them. \u201cThis has been such an amazing opportunity to be involved in a world class event with top class players and facilities.
