After losing to the Warriors 4-2 last week, the Velocity team were in top form, winning 4 of the 6 matches in straight sets. The Velocity men were unable to repeat last week\u2019s victory over the Warriors, losing today\u2019s match 5-1 and ending their finals hopes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alison Bai <\/strong>put Velocity out to an early lead with a 4-1, 4-3 victory over <strong>Alexandra Bozovic. Natalie Barbir <\/strong>then levelled the scores with a tight victory over <strong>Tyra Calderwood <\/strong>with all three sets going to a tiebreak. <strong>Ashley Keir <\/strong>defeated <strong>Rebecca Jones, <\/strong>while 12 year old <strong>Annerly Poulos <\/strong>notched up another impressive win against <strong>Lucie Kriegsmannova. <\/strong>In the doubles <strong>Alexandra Nancarrow <\/strong>and Bai defeated Bozovic and Jones, while Keir and Calderwood accounted for Kriegsmannova and <strong>Jess Engels. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The victory claimed top spot on the North Pool B ladder, and will see Velocity face the second place team in Pool A, which is still to be determined with matches taking place in Queensland later today.<\/p>\n<p>With the Western Sydney Warriors and Canberra Velocity men sitting in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> spot going into today\u2019s match, a finals berth was on the line. Both teams were without number one players in <strong>Jake Eames <\/strong>(Velocity) and <strong>Jake Delaney <\/strong>(Warriors) for today\u2019s match.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Frawley<\/strong> got Velocity out to a 1-0 lead, with a straight sets victory over <strong>David Barclay<\/strong>. <strong>Max Purcell <\/strong>then hit back for the Warriors, defeating <strong>Daniel Guccione <\/strong>in 3 sets. <strong>Cameron Smith <\/strong>then defeated <strong>Troy Lockwood, <\/strong>while, <strong>Blade Fong <\/strong>beat <strong>Alex Babanine <\/strong>in 3 sets to put the Warriors up 3-1. The Warriors then won both doubles to take the tie 5-1, clinching the last finals spot and ending the Velocity men\u2019s 2015-16 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The Velocity women will travel to Queensland on Friday to play in the North Conference semi finals at 6pm at the Sunshine Coast Regional Tennis Centre.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canberra Velocity Men <\/strong>1 defeated by <strong>Western Sydney Warriors <\/strong>5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Singles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No 1.
