{"id":7872,"date":"2015-11-19T20:50:12","date_gmt":"2015-11-19T09:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=7872"},"modified":"2015-11-19T20:58:23","modified_gmt":"2015-11-19T09:58:23","slug":"velocity-to-open-campaign-against-sydney-saints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2015\/11\/19\/velocity-to-open-campaign-against-sydney-saints","title":{"rendered":"Velocity to open campaign against Sydney Saints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Canberra Velocity <\/strong>will launch their 2015-16 <strong>Asia-Pacific Tennis League <\/strong>(ATL) campaign against the <strong>Sydney Saints\u00a0<\/strong>on Friday\u00a0at the <strong>Canberra Tennis Centre. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Canberra Velocity Men will have a full strength line up with <strong>Jake Eames, Daniel Guccione, Alexander Babanine, <\/strong>and <strong>James Frawley <\/strong>all expected to play. Eames who has come off an extended injury break, has been back on the Australian Pro Tour competing at Pro Tour events in Brisbane, Traralgon, Canberra, and Wollongong recently. Victorian\u2019s Guccione (ATP 2205) and Babanine (ATP 2076) are both making their first appearance for Velocity, while Frawley gained valuable doubles experience at the recent Canberra International.<\/p>\n<p>The Saints team are led by world number 291, <strong>Matt Barton<\/strong>. Barton made the semi finals of the Traralgon Challenger in October and also made the second round at the Canberra International. Sydney juniors <strong>Brian Tran<\/strong> and <strong>Benard Nkomba<\/strong> will line up for the Saints, along with former world number 830, <strong>Simon Ede<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Canberra Velocity Women will be without <strong>Alison Bai<\/strong> for the match against the Saints, however she will return to face the <strong>Sunshine Coast Breakers<\/strong> on Saturday. <strong>Alex Nancarrow <\/strong>is still under an injury cloud and unlikely to play this weekend but will offer valuable insight as team manager. Velocity regular\u2019s <strong>Ashley Keir <\/strong>and <strong>Tyra Calderwood <\/strong>will lead the team against the Saints, with juniors <strong>Kaitlin Staines <\/strong>and<strong> Annerly Poulos <\/strong>also expected to play.<\/p>\n<p>The Saints Women will be led by <strong>Angelique Svinos<\/strong> (WTA 847) who has spent the majority of the year travelling on the ITF circuit. <strong>Brooke Winley, Lisa Mays, Martina Hudaly, <\/strong>and <strong>Gabriella Da Silva-Fick <\/strong>are all available to play for the Saints on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Velocity will face Queensland team, Sunshine Coast Breakers. The Men\u2019s team list features Romanian <strong>Victor Crivoi <\/strong>(ATP 578) who reached a career high ranking of 75 in 2009, along with <strong>Dayne Kelly<\/strong> (ATP 546), <strong>Thomas Fancutt<\/strong> (ATP 642), and <strong>Mitchell Robins<\/strong> (ATP 1329)<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s Breakers team features a young line up, led by 19 year old <strong>Kayla McPhee<\/strong> who is ranked 61 in the Australian rankings.
