{"id":7181,"date":"2015-04-21T10:16:46","date_gmt":"2015-04-21T00:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=7181"},"modified":"2015-04-21T10:16:46","modified_gmt":"2015-04-21T00:16:46","slug":"45th-act-seniors-tennis-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2015\/04\/21\/45th-act-seniors-tennis-tournament","title":{"rendered":"45th ACT Seniors Tennis Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2015\/04\/Easter-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7184 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2015\/04\/Easter-3.jpg\" alt=\"Easter 3\" width=\"405\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 45th ACT Seniors Tennis Tournament was held over the Easter long weekend at the Canberra Tennis Centre.\u00a0 All the players were extremely happy with the new clay courts, with most people requesting to play on them.\u00a0 In future years, the new clay surface will attract players to the event prior to heading overseas.\u00a0 Tournament Director Pat Moloney said the feedback on the venue was fantastic &#8220;The new courts were the winners.\u00a0 The favourable comments received should ensure a bigger tournament next year&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>There was some great competition in the men&#8217;s singles with four players winning their matches in straight sets and three winning in 3 set battles.\u00a0 The new courts provided some long matches, in particular for past world champion, Andrew Rae.\u00a0 Andrew won the MS 50 after 9 hours on court during his 3 matches.\u00a0 Narelle Raftery had a dominant weekend, winning the singles, doubles, and mixed.<\/p>\n<p>Two international players played the tournament. Isabel le Gemmel from Germany and Felix Mangunpratomo from Indonesia. Felix played last year and hopefully will be back next year as he coming to Canberra. He partnered\u00a0Canberra local\u00a0Tim Harris in the doubles and came runner up in the M55D.<\/p>\n<p>Craig Withell, a winner of the Men\u2019s 60+ Singles, is an ex Canberra player who moved to Sydney in the late eighties.
