The event held at the Canberra Tennis Centre has $10,000 prizemoney on offer and has attracted some of the top players from around Australia. Canberra players Jake Okines and James Frawley caused the biggest upsets in the Men\u2019s draws taking out the number 2 and 4 seeds respectively, while Imogen Clews took out the number 6 Women\u2019s seed.<\/p>\n<p>In the Women\u2019s draw, Alison Bai was convincing in her first round match against Wollongong\u2019s Brooke Winley defeating her 6-1, 6-3. Bai will face number 8 seed Gabrielle O\u2019Gorman in the quarter finals tomorrow. Canberra\u2019s Imogen Clews was also impressive defeating fellow Canberran Chorlida Kang in the first round, before taking out the number 6 seed Sonja Balic in straight sets.\u00a0 Canberra Velocity player and number 2 seed, Tyra Calderwood, posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over qualifier\u00a0Claudia Furdi.\u00a0It was a relatively comfortable day for the Women&#8217;s seeds with the remainder moving into the quarter finals.<\/p>\n<p>In the Men\u2019s draw, top seed Matthew Barton was clinical in his match against qualifier Antoni Trajkovski, only dropping two games in his 6-1, 6-1 victory. Barton will face Glen Dawes in tomorrow\u2019s quarter final after Dawes upset number 7 seed Brian Tran. Canberra player Jake Okines was impressive with a straight sets win over Tomislav Papac in the first round. In the second round his faced second seed and world number 1217, Daniel Guccione with Okines causing the upset of the day after going up a set and 3-2 before Guccione was forced to retire with an injury. Fellow ACT player, James Frawley also caused a major upset, defeating number 4 seed Jason Taylor in an epic 3 set match, 6-1, 6-7, 7-5.
