Tennis ACT held its first Australian Money Tournament (AMT) at the Canberra Tennis Centre from the 5-8th of February.\u00a0 The Gold AMT attracted players from across Australia with $7,500 in prizemoney on offer.<\/p>\n

In the Men’s event, the top 4 seeds all proceeded to the semi finals of the tournament.\u00a0 In the first semi, number 1 seed Dimitri Vidin faced off against Canberra’s James Frawley.\u00a0 It was the number 4 seed, Frawley who came out on top with a three set victory 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.\u00a0 In the other semi number 3 seed Ruadhan De Bruges defeated 2 seed Aaron Mccrae 6-1, 6-1.\u00a0 In the final, De Bruges proved too strong taking the title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Frawley.\u00a0 De Bruges went through the tournament without losing a set.<\/p>\n

In the Women’s event, the semi finals proved to be tough matches with both featuring young teenagers against more experienced opponents.\u00a0 In the first semi, Tyra Calderwood took on 15 year old Kaitlin Staines, with Calderwood winning the match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.\u00a0 In the other semi, Melissa Anderson used her experience to overcome teenager Brooke Winley 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.\u00a0 In the final, Calderwood’s consistency proved the difference with her winning the match 6-2, 6-4.<\/p>\n

ACT\u00a0players performed well in the consolation events, with all four finalists from Canberra.\u00a0 In the Men’s consolation, Alexander De Jong defeated Jack Fuller 6-0, 6-3 while in the Women’s consolation, Annerly Poulos defeated Sarina Kang 6-3, 0-6, 13-11.<\/p>\n

In the Men’s doubles, Christian and Nelson Parker defeated Jake Okines and Yuki Okamoto 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 while in the Women’s doubles, Kaitlin Staines and Nicole Morris defeated Tyra Calderwood and Annerly Poulos 6-3 6-3.<\/p>\n
