{"id":6354,"date":"2014-10-20T11:40:55","date_gmt":"2014-10-20T01:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=6354"},"modified":"2014-10-20T11:40:55","modified_gmt":"2014-10-20T01:40:55","slug":"win-a-wildcard-mpowerdome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2014\/10\/20\/win-a-wildcard-mpowerdome","title":{"rendered":"Win a Wildcard &#8211; Mpowerdome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2014\/10\/A-Grade1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6357\" alt=\"A Grade\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2014\/10\/A-Grade1.jpg\" width=\"407\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second Win a Wildcard event was held at Mpowerdome on Sunday the 19<sup>th<\/sup> of October.\u00a0 28 players competed across 2 grades for their chance to Win a Wildcard into the 2015 Australian Open Mixed doubles.<\/p>\n<p>Play got under way with the Set (B Grade) event.\u00a0 Relja Cvjeticanin and Marlene Reichel defeated Mark Ferris and Carol Ruster in a closely contested final winning\u00a0in a tiebreak 4-3.\u00a0 Cvjeticanin and Reichel will now join Asheek Khan and Penny Phung as the ACT Winners who will play at December showdown in Melbourne for the chance to take out the B grade title.<\/p>\n<p>The match (A grade) players then hit the courts for a great afternoon of tennis in warm conditions.\u00a0 In the semi finals both matches came down to the wire with Tarlina Tipungwuti and Ben Sterland defeating Sam Briggs and Josh Fraser 4-3, while Nicole Morris and Troy Smith defeated Gabby Beaumont and Nelson Parker also in a tiebreak.<\/p>\n<p>With the chance to head to Melbourne to compete for a wildcard into the 2015 Australian Open Mixed doubles on the line, the final was a hotly contested match with some big hitting on display.\u00a0 It was the combination of Morris and Smith who came out on top with a 4-2 victory.\u00a0 Smith and Morris were both very excited to win the event, with Smith saying \u201cthe competition in Melbourne will be fierce, but with the Fast 4 format, anything can happen\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all players who participated in the event.\u00a0 A special thank you to the staff at Mpowerdome for hosting the event.<\/p>\n<p>For full results please <a href=\"https:\/\/winawildcard.aoblitz.com.au\/event\/view\/x\">click here<\/a><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second Win a Wildcard event was held at Mpowerdome on Sunday the 19th of October.\u00a0 28 players competed across 2 grades for their chance to Win a Wildcard into the 2015 Australian Open Mixed doubles.
