Lyn Hinds who has been a long term umpire in the nation’s capital has been rewarded for her hard work and dedication by being selected for the Fed Cup semifinal between Australia & Germany in Brisbane. The tie will take place on Pat Rafter Arena on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th April. “It’s a great achievement and an honour to be selected. I was thrilled when I got the news.” remarked Lyn. Lyn is amongst a group of 19 Line Umpires selected from across the country for the all-important tie.

The grading’s from the Australian Open and Australian Open Series were officially released last week by Tennis Australia’s Officiating department. Local line umpire Myles Emery was upgraded to an “A” grading (the highest grading) on all three lines (serve, base and long line), and now joins three other TOA ACT members who have retained their triple A grading this year. Congratulations also to Sam Abousaid who was upgraded to an “A” grading on long line.

“This is a sensational achievement by all three ACT officials. We have some of the best umpires in Australia residing here in Canberra” Noted Mark Crawley, Tennis Officials Australia – ACT Division President. “In the ACT, we now have four triple A line umpires, three ITF badged chair umpires and one ITF badged Referee. In addition, we sent two line umpires to the US Open in 2013 and have also had two officials selected for this year’s Wimbledon Championships.
