{"id":5586,"date":"2013-11-08T20:18:10","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T10:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=5586"},"modified":"2013-11-08T20:18:10","modified_gmt":"2013-11-08T10:18:10","slug":"strong-start-for-velocity-men","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2013\/11\/08\/strong-start-for-velocity-men","title":{"rendered":"Velocity&#8217;s men team make strong start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra Velocity men\u2019s team has made a winning start to their Asia-Pacific Tennis League campaign in Sydney tonight, beating Sydney Uni Lions four rubbers to two.<\/p>\n<p>AIS scholarship holder Alex Bolt edged out Dane Propoggia, ranked 363 in the world, 4-3 (5-0), 1-4, 4-2 and Canberra baseliner Jake Eames\u00a0defeated former professional Jurek Stasiak, 4-3 (5-1), 4-2.<\/p>\n<p>Velocity\u2019s James Frawley\u00a0fought hard against Kris Balakrishnan, before eventually losing 1-4, 4-3 (5-1), 3-4 (3-5), while Robert Howe\u00a0defeated Uni\u2019s Gavin Levy\u00a04-2, 4-3 (5-2),<\/p>\n<p>In the doubles, Bolt and Eames dropped just three games against Propoggia and Stasiak, winning 4-2, 4-1, while Frawley and Howe lost in a super-tiebreak against Balakrishnan-Power 4-3 (5-2), 3-4(3-5), (5-10).<\/p>\n<p>Team coach Alun Jones was impressed with the team\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boys played really well,\u201d Jones said. \u201cThey were a really strong team and it was a match we could have lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canberra Velocity will play its first home ties at the North Woden Tennis Club on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Velocity\u2019s men team will meet Stanmore Wyverns, headlined by former world No.1 junior Todd Reid.
