ACT officials have been enjoying great success on the local, national and international stage over the past few months \u2013 from being on court at the Australia vs Kazakhstan Davis Cup World Group Quarter-Final Tie in Darwin to officiating at Roland Garros and WTA\/ATP events in Netherlands and Sweden.<\/p>\n
The great success of ACT officials is based on a system that involves a balance of classroom and practical learning with the support of experienced and friendly mentors and trainers.<\/p>\n
\u201cTennis Australia\u2019s entry into officiating is designed to give people with an interest and the right attitude, the opportunity to become involved in officiating \u2013 whether on court as a line or chair umpire or off court as a court supervisor and referee\u201d explains Martin Oosthuysen, Officiating Development Coordinator NSW\/ACT.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a clear development pathway for officials to learn a little bit more about the rules and roles of officiating in the classroom, then progress to on court practice with support from local officials.\u201d<\/p>\n
2015 is an exciting year for officials in the ACT with the redevelopment of the Canberra Tennis Centre and world class tournaments coming to Lyneham later this year.<\/p>\n
