On Thursday 21 February 2013 Forrest Tennis Club was host to the annual Maxim Chartered Accountants\u2019 Tennis Invitational Charity Day raising over $100,000 for the George Gregan Foundation.<\/p>\n
The event, featured former Davis Cup captain John Fitzgerald, will\u00a0 raise much-needed funds for an adventure playground at the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.<\/p>\n
Fitzgerald, the former world number 1 doubles player and winner of the \u201cdoubles Slam\u201d (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open), says he was delighted to help raise money for such a worthy cause.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great cause, I am honoured to be a part of the fundraising campaign,\u201d Fitzgerald, known affectionately worldwide as Fitzy, says.<\/p>\n
The $105,410 raised on the day will be given to the George Gregan Foundation and its efforts to build a jungle adventure playground at Canberra Hospital\u2019s new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.<\/p>\n
Tennis ACT CEO Ross Triffitt says Maxim Chartered Accountants, which sponsors Tennis ACT\u2019s Talent Stars Red Ball Program, is a Canberra company that continues to do great things for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaxim Chartered Accountants has always been a great supporter of our junior tennis program,\u201d Triffitt says. \u201cIt is a progressive local company with a social conscience.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says the Maxim Invitational is just another way the company is trying to give back to the community.
\n\u201cTennis provides so many social and health benefits to the community through the age, cultural and socio-economic diversification of its participants, but sometimes these benefits are difficult to quantify,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn event like the Maxim Invitational uses tennis to facilitate a clear and tangible benefit to the community through the funds raised on the day for local charities. It\u2019s a great event.\u201d<\/p>\n
