Canberra Velocity women\u2019s team is looking to make it three wins in a row when it meets NSTA Avengers at the National Sports Club at Lyneham on Sunday (November 18).<\/p>\n
Velocity, led by locals Alison Bai and Ashley Keir, has looked impressive in its first two outings against City Community Tennis and National Academy NSW AUStars, dropping only two sets in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League so far.<\/p>\n
In its most challenging tie to date, Velocity faces NSTA Avengers, which boast a mix of youth and experience.<\/p>\n
Led by world No.120 junior Danielle Wagland, 29-year-old Melissa Anderson and Lucia Gonzalez, Avengers have a win and a draw (thanks to a wash-out) in the NSW\/ACT conference.<\/p>\n
Velocity women\u2019s manager Annabel Parolo said she is looking forward to seeing how the team responds to the challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn paper it\u2019s our most challenging tie to date, so it will be good to see how our girls handle the added pressure,\u201d Parolo said.<\/p>\n
With AIS scholarship holder Alex Bolt and world junior No.4 Nick Kygrios leading the charge, Velocity\u2019s men\u2019s team will be hoping to build on its first win in the round-robin competition when it meets Hunter Raworth Tigers on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Like Velocity, the Tigers spearheaded by Sadik Kadir and Ethan Coker are looking for their second win in the NSW\/ACT conference.<\/p>\n
Velocity\u2019s men\u2019s player\/manager Todd Larkham said he was hoping the home-court advantage would work in his team\u2019s favour.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a tougher match than today that\u2019s for sure. However we are well prepared having played on the claycourts today, which should be to our advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Larkham said more than 200 people watched Canberra Velocity at the National Sports Club at Lyneham today.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a great turn-out today, and we\u2019re hoping that the tennis community will get behind our team again tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
