{"id":4672,"date":"2012-11-09T11:09:07","date_gmt":"2012-11-09T01:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=4672"},"modified":"2012-11-09T11:09:07","modified_gmt":"2012-11-09T01:09:07","slug":"kyrgios-to-inspire-maxim-talent-stars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2012\/11\/09\/kyrgios-to-inspire-maxim-talent-stars","title":{"rendered":"Kyrgios to inspire Maxim Talent Stars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If our Maxim Talent Stars needed any motivation, then they don\u2019t need to look any further than Canberra Velocity\u2019s Nick Kyrgios.<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios, a dual Grand Slam junior doubles champion, will be one of Canberra Velocity team to join them for a hit at the National Sports Club, Lyneham, on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The world No.4 junior says he is looking forward to having the opportunity to inspire some of Canberra\u2019s rising tennis players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to meeting the kids and having a hit with them,\u201d Kyrgios says. \u201cHopefully I can give them some advice and they can see that even if they are from Canberra they can do well on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the Maxim Talent Stars Red Ball session, the juniors will be assessed by National Academy coach Todd Larkham.<\/p>\n<p>The Maxim Talent Stars Red Ball Program has made tennis a lot easier to learn and play at a young age. The program follows the MLC Tennis Hot Shots Red Ball guidelines for training and competition. It uses modified equipment for children, appropriate to their developmental needs, allowing them to play like the professionals &#8211; complete with serves, rallies and net play.<\/p>\n<p>These Maxim Talent Stars, aged between five and eight, have been identified by their club coach as having the potential to one day play at an elite level.<\/p>\n<p>The Maxim scholarship allows qualified MLC Tennis Hot Shots coaches from Canberra tennis clubs to offer scholarships which provide free squad coaching for one hour per week for five weeks each term.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of each term these scholarship holders are assessed by Larkham in a bid to accelerate their tennis development.<\/p>\n<p>Larkham will provide feedback about the children\u2019s progression to both coaches and parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI give them a few tips, but the main objective is to instil a passion for tennis in them early,\u201d Larkham says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, seeing Nick and hearing about his success will spur them on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT:<\/strong> Talent Stars Training Session, featuring Nick Kyrgios with 15 of ACT\u2019s top juniors aged 5-8.<br \/>\n<strong>WHERE:<\/strong> National Sports Club, Lyneham<br \/>\n<strong>WHEN:<\/strong> Friday, November 9, from 4.30pm to 6pm<br \/>\n<strong>INQUIRIES:<\/strong> Ross Triffitt, Tennis ACT, phone 6160 7800<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If our Maxim Talent Stars needed any motivation, then they don\u2019t need to look any further than Canberra Velocity\u2019s Nick Kyrgios.
