{"id":4649,"date":"2012-10-30T09:07:31","date_gmt":"2012-10-29T23:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=4649"},"modified":"2012-10-30T09:07:31","modified_gmt":"2012-10-29T23:07:31","slug":"kyrgios-wins-osaka-mayor-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2012\/10\/30\/kyrgios-wins-osaka-mayor-cup","title":{"rendered":"Kyrgios wins Osaka Mayor Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra\u2019s Nick Kyrgios has taken out the Grade A junior title at the Osaka Mayor\u2019s Cup in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The Canberra junior may jump to as high as number three in the world rankings after an impressive tournament, not dropping a set in six matches.<\/p>\n<p>The current world number five junior defeated local favourite Kaichi Uchida (JPN) 7-6(5) 7-6(4) to take out the title.<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios said winning his first Grade A event was a huge relief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was overwhelming, just because there was a lot of expectation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just glad to get the job done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios, who is also an AIS Pro Tour Program member, won in straight sets but said it was a tough match for both players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got off to a good start but I always knew he was going to lift his game,\u201d said Kyrgios of his opponent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet through all the close, intense points, I managed to play the big points better than Uchida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a successful tournament for Kyrgios, he also finished runner up in the doubles event with partner Omar Jasika (Vic).<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios was joined in Japan by some of Australia\u2019s top juniors as part of the Asia B1 Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios now returns to contest the William Loud Bendigo International, the final Australian Pro Tour event for 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile fellow juniors Marc Polmans (Vic) and Sara Tomic (Qld) finished\u00a0 as semi finalists in the ITF Grade 2 event in Thailand while Queensland junior Lizette Cabrera who was forced to retire in the girls\u2019\u00a0 final.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra\u2019s Nick Kyrgios has taken out the Grade A junior title at the Osaka Mayor\u2019s Cup in Japan.
