{"id":4551,"date":"2012-09-25T11:59:17","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T01:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=4551"},"modified":"2012-09-25T11:59:17","modified_gmt":"2012-09-25T01:59:17","slug":"act-announces-its-inaugural-atl-womens-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2012\/09\/25\/act-announces-its-inaugural-atl-womens-team","title":{"rendered":"ACT announces its inaugural ATL women\u2019s team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra teenager Ashley Keir will lead the ACT women\u2019s team to compete in the new Asia-Pacific Tennis<br \/>\nLeague (ATL) in November.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old scholarship holder with the National Academy Canberra is currently the sixth-ranked<br \/>\njunior in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>She will be joined by fellow Canberran and tour player Alison Bai in the Canberra ATL women\u2019s team to<br \/>\nplay in the NSW\/ACT conference.<\/p>\n<p>Ranked 758 in the world, Bai, 22, spends most of the year playing International Tennis Federation (ITF)<br \/>\nevents around the world.<\/p>\n<p>With a WTA singles ranking of 869 and doubles ranking of 352, she is the most experienced young player<br \/>\nin the team.<\/p>\n<p>Canberra-based Tarlina Tipungwuti, 20, and NSW pair Tyra Calderwood and Nicole Hoynaski (NSW)<br \/>\ncomplete the line-up.<\/p>\n<p>With a career-high WTA singles ranking of 57, former professional Annabel Parolo (nee Ellwood) will bring<br \/>\ninvaluable experience to the rookie line-up as team manager.<\/p>\n<p>Parolo said she was excited by team\u2019s prospects in the new league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are the strongest team on paper in our conference,\u201d she said. \u201cAll five girls are of similar standard and<br \/>\nwe are confident of doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The five Australian conferences will be played in November with four conference rounds and a conference<br \/>\nfinal.<\/p>\n<p>The five Australian conference winners, plus a team from the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Asia will<br \/>\ncompete in the national final at Melbourne Park during the 2013 Australian Open in January.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Canberra ATL women\u2019s team:<\/strong><br \/>\nAshley Keir, 18, currently No.6-ranked junior in Australia with WTA ranking of 758<br \/>\nAlison Bai, 22, WTA rankings: singles 869, doubles 352<br \/>\nTyra Calderwood, 22, WTA rankings: singles 920, doubles 190<br \/>\nNicole Hoynaski, 18, Australian ranking 47<br \/>\nTarlina Tipungwuti, 20, Australian Ranking 125<br \/>\nAnnabel Parolo (manager) career-high WTA singles ranking 57, doubles 60<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra teenager Ashley Keir will lead the ACT women\u2019s team to compete in the new Asia-Pacific Tennis League (ATL) in November.
