{"id":3723,"date":"2012-03-30T09:25:19","date_gmt":"2012-03-29T23:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=3723"},"modified":"2012-03-30T09:25:19","modified_gmt":"2012-03-29T23:25:19","slug":"tennis-australia-12-under-talent-development-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2012\/03\/30\/tennis-australia-12-under-talent-development-camp","title":{"rendered":"Tennis Australia 12-under Talent Development Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Sports Club in Lyneham, ACT held a Tennis Australia 12-under Talent Development Camp for athletes from the southeast and southwest regions of NSW and athletes from the ACT.\u00a0 It was held this past weekend, 23rd and 24th March.<\/p>\n<p>The club has both clay and hard courts so the players learned how to move and adjust to the different surfaces.\u00a0\u00a0 David Briggs, a very experienced strength and conditioning coach who specifies in tennis movement, gave all the players individual attention to improve their footwork and sliding technique on clay.\u00a0 Also Briggs as the guest speaker did a presentation on movement to educate the parents, coaches and athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Since the SW and SE regional players came from quite far distances, they stayed at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and were able to experience a night at one of the \u201cworld\u2019s best practice model for high performance athlete development\u201d.\u00a0 On Sunday they ate lunch in the dining hall with scholarship athletes, Olympians and Paralympics athletes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The athletes mentioned how much fun they had at the camp and that the coaches were \u201cmotivating and top notch.\u201d Other highlights the athletes mentioned were getting to meet new friends and people, sliding on clay and eating at the AIS dining hall.<\/p>\n<p>Nicole Arendt, Tennis Australia Coach and Talent Development Manager, who organised the camp was excited how it all turned out, \u201cThese TD camps are wonderful for the athletes to get together outside tournaments.\u00a0 Less tension allows them to hit freely and be open minded to new experiences.\u00a0 They get to socialise with their peers, have a lot of fun and learn, learn, learn.\u00a0 One athlete even mentioned the ice cream in the dining hall as being one of his highlights!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Sports Club in Lyneham, ACT held a Tennis Australia 12-under Talent Development Camp for athletes from the southeast and southwest regions of NSW and athletes from the ACT.\u00a0 It was held this past weekend, 23rd and 24th March.
