The final day of the Junior Open finished today with an all ACT\u00a012 boys\u00a0final.<\/p>\n

Twelve-year-old Dimitri Morogiannis was the most hungry for the win, beating his doubles partner and fellow Canberra local, Patrick Wielemborek in straight sets.<\/p>\n

Morogiannis was challenged in the second set having been up 3-0 with Wielemborek coming back to be ahead 4-3.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With some determination Morogiannis turned the match back in his favour winning 6-1, 6-4.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so hungry for it,\u201d Morogiannis said.\u00a0 \u201cI said to myself I need to win this, and I did.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first tournament that I have won and it\u2019s a happy feeling.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI am relieved that I won a tournament in the ACT because all the coaches will know that I won and it\u2019s my home state,\u201d added Morogiannis.<\/p>\n

Wielemborek was upset with the loss but was happy with his performance in the second set.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve lost to Dimitri before in the consolation final last year,\u201d Wielemborek said. \u201cI think I\u2019ve improved but I am kind of sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just like hitting the ball and trying my best.\u00a0 I\u2019ve started to get more aggressive and my technique was much better in the second set,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The boys joined forces in the doubles but lost in the semi final to Victorians Joshua Charlton and Jack Clements who went on to win the final.<\/p>\n

Tournament Director, Lenka Marecek, said the tournament was a great success despite contending with interstate competitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tournament went really well,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cNumbers were a little bit down from last year because there were other events on at the same time, which is a bit unfortunate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means the schedules went through really easily because there weren\u2019t as many players, but the competition has still been to a high standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to see the ACT competitors performing well, particularly the boys in the under 12\u2019s final, but it\u2019s also good to see teams from other states making the trek to Canberra and having a great time,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
