{"id":20068,"date":"2025-04-17T05:02:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T19:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=20068"},"modified":"2025-04-17T06:36:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T20:36:13","slug":"australian-junior-claycourt-champions-crowned-in-canberra-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2025\/04\/17\/australian-junior-claycourt-champions-crowned-in-canberra-2","title":{"rendered":"Australian Junior Claycourt Champions crowned in Canberra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><strong>Four new national singles champions have been crowned at the 2025 12\/u and 14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships held at the Canberra Tennis Centre.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The finals were a fitting end to a tournament that hosted 128 players from around Australia over the past week, giving all the opportunity to play for national titles and gain valuable experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Girls 12\/u singles final was a Queensland showdown between <strong>Samantha Sun<\/strong> and <strong>Eadie Biggs<\/strong>. Eadie defeated Sun 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, and said it was a fantastic week,\u00a0\u201cI love the facilities and the claycourts here. It was a little challenging playing my friend in the finals, but I am so happy with the result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The 14\/u Boys final was between two Victorians, <strong>Parth Chitroda<\/strong> and <strong>Jonathan Zhang<\/strong>. Chitroda defeated Zhang in a thrilling three-set match, \u201cIt feels unreal to be champion, I still can\u2019t really believe it. It\u2019s been such a great week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Tournament Director Mark Pead<\/strong>, \u201cWe have had a great week here in Canberra for the 12\/u and 14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships. The weather has been perfect, and this tournament is a highlight on the junior performance calendar. Congratulations to all of the players who have participated in the tournament and our thanks to the team at the Tennis World Canberra and Tennis ACT for their generous hospitality, time and efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Tom George, National Development Head Coach \u2013 ACT<\/strong>, said it was the perfect platform for the nine ACT players, \u201c<strong>Tia Barrimore<\/strong> was a standout performer, reaching the final of the 14\/U Girls Doubles Championships. The hard work and dedication from Tia has shown her go from strength to strength this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">George continued, \u201c<strong>Dave Gandhi<\/strong> played exceptional tennis all week and finished in the top 10 in the 12\/U Boys event. <strong>Celeste Rubiano<\/strong>, <strong>Mitch Rankin<\/strong>, <strong>Piyushi Bandara<\/strong> and <strong>Zoe Cowles<\/strong> all finished in the top 16. Former ACT resident <strong>Jobe Dikkenberg<\/strong>, who trained and was developed in Canberra before his move to QLD, had a stellar week\u2014winning the 12\/U Boys Doubles and also reaching the final of the 12\/U Singles to cap off a great week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Three National Junior Championships are played each year on each of the Grand Slam surfaces \u2013 clay, grass and hard court \u2013 as part of Tennis Australia\u2019s player development pathway.
