{"id":19169,"date":"2024-02-29T13:30:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T02:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=19169"},"modified":"2024-02-29T13:40:10","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T02:40:10","slug":"complementary-formats-showcased-at-act-club-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2024\/02\/29\/complementary-formats-showcased-at-act-club-forum","title":{"rendered":"Complementary formats showcased at ACT Club Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs x126k92a\">\n<h3>Last night, the Tennis ACT Club Forum provided an update to <strong>44 Club Presidents and Committee members<\/strong> on tennis in the capital.<\/h3>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">With a focus on the growth of complementary formats, the forum included a workshop from <strong>Callum Beale<\/strong>, Head of Game Expansion at Tennis Australia and <strong>Robbie Manzano<\/strong>, Owner\/Director of Tennis Canberra.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tennis ACT CEO,<strong> Mark La Brooy<\/strong> introduced the forum by providing an update on the development of Tennis ACT&#8217;s strategic plan. By delivering on Tennis Australia&#8217;s <strong>Game On<\/strong> strategy, <strong>Tennis ACT<\/strong> will strive to get more kids into tennis, retain teens and attract lapsed adults. A key focus area will also be the accessibility of tennis in the ACT; optimising venue health, implementing digital solutions and making tennis more diverse and equitable will be priorities in this area. The strategic plan will be completed in <strong>April<\/strong>, with implementation set to begin by <strong>July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-19172 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2024\/02\/Tennis-ACT-Club-Forum-February-2024-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2024\/02\/Tennis-ACT-Club-Forum-February-2024-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2024\/02\/Tennis-ACT-Club-Forum-February-2024-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2024\/02\/Tennis-ACT-Club-Forum-February-2024.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An update was also given on the upcoming <strong>Walking Clinic Canberra Tennis League<\/strong> review. Taking place in March, this overarching review will revisit junior pathways and ACT competitive play processes including fee payment systems.<\/p>\n<p>Results from recent <strong>Women &amp; Girls<\/strong> initiatives were also shared to the forum. We were proud to report a 16% increase in female participants playing competitively through the <strong>Women&#8217;s Tennis League.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other upcoming key dates:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Canberra Girls Get Active Day<\/strong> \u2013 Sunday, March 3 10am \u2013 12pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Beach Tennis Come and Try Session<\/strong> \u2013 17th March<\/li>\n<li><strong>Club Forum Dates 2024<\/strong> \u2013 June 19th, October 16th TBC<\/li>\n<li><strong>ACT Sport and Recreation Community Grant Applications Close<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; March 15<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We were delighted to present a Volunteer Award to <strong>Don Masters<\/strong> from <strong>Southlands Tennis Club<\/strong>.\u00a0Don regularly takes time out of his day to help maintain and improve the facilities at Southlands Tennis Club, often at his own expense. He is a friendly and active member of the club community and is well deserving of the award.\u00a0Thanks to <strong><span class=\"xt0psk2\">Beyond Bank<\/span><\/strong>, Don will receive a <strong>$200<\/strong> award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Callum Beale<\/strong>, Head of Game Expansion at Tennis Australia and <strong>Robbie Manzano<\/strong>, Owner\/Director of Tennis Canberra presented to the forum on complementary formats. The presentation provided remarkable insight into the background and rise of these new ways to play. He highlighted ways in which ACT clubs can improve their accessibility and sustainability by introducing POP tennis, Padel or Pickleball.
