{"id":18864,"date":"2023-09-16T11:28:23","date_gmt":"2023-09-16T01:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=18864"},"modified":"2023-09-21T02:11:07","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T16:11:07","slug":"tennis-act-award-the-best-in-the-act-region-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2023\/09\/16\/tennis-act-award-the-best-in-the-act-region-2","title":{"rendered":"Tennis ACT award the best in the ACT &amp; Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight, the <strong>Tennis ACT Awards<\/strong> were held at Manuka Oval with over 120 guests in attendance from the tennis community.<\/p>\n<p>The event highlights collective successes including club growth, coaching talent and player highlights, showcasing the people and groups who were responsible for making it happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis ACT CEO Mark La Brooy<\/strong> said it was a night to recognise and celebrate the fantastic tennis community. \u201cTonight was a great opportunity to celebrate our tennis community, across all levels of our sport\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the first time in history the Coaching Excellence \u2013 Club category was won by a female coach, <strong>Sandy Moore<\/strong>. This is fantastic recognition, and really demonstrates the inclusive environment seen across all levels of our sport. Sandy has played a major role in giving women and girls the opportunity to play tennis, including developing programs such as Preschool Hotshots, #nolimits girls squad, and delivering the Tennis4Teens program \u2013 an initiative that gets more teenage girls into the sport in a fun and supportive environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La Brooy continued, \u201cMelba Tennis Club also took home multiple awards, as Club of the Year, and Narelle Sykes from the Melba Tennis Club was awarded the Volunteer Achievement Award\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2023 Tennis ACT Award winners;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Athlete of the Year: Nick Kyrgios<\/p>\n<p>Coaching Excellence \u2013 Club: Sandy Moore, On the Line Tennis, Melba Tennis Club<\/p>\n<p>Coaching Excellence \u2013 Development: Myles Emery<\/p>\n<p>Coaching Excellence \u2013 Performance: Alun Jones<\/p>\n<p>ACT Adult Club Player of the Year: Daniel Green, Weston Creek Tennis Club<\/p>\n<p>ACT Junior Club Player of the Year: Rayan Kheradpezhouh, Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club<\/p>\n<p>Junior Athlete of the Year \u2013 Male: Charlie Camus<\/p>\n<p>Junior Athlete of the Year \u2013 Female: Alisha Kumar<\/p>\n<p>Most Outstanding Athlete with a Disability: Matthew Leggett<\/p>\n<p>Most Outstanding 30+ Tennis Master: Ros Balodis<\/p>\n<p>Excellence in Officiating: John Blom<\/p>\n<p>Most Outstanding Tennis Club or Venue: Melba Tennis Club<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer Achievement Award: Narelle Sykes, Melba Tennis Club<\/p>\n<p>Most Outstanding Inclusion Initiative: Marymead CatholicCare \u2013 Neurodiversity Come &amp; Try Day<\/p>\n<p>Most Outstanding School: Red Hill Primary School<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Winners from the Tennis ACT Awards in linked categories will be nominated for the prestigious Tennis Australia Awards, the <strong>Newcombe Medal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight, the Tennis ACT Awards were held at Manuka Oval with over 120 guests in attendance from the tennis community.
