{"id":18167,"date":"2023-01-07T18:02:20","date_gmt":"2023-01-07T07:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=18167"},"modified":"2023-01-07T18:03:00","modified_gmt":"2023-01-07T07:03:00","slug":"champions-crowned-at-p2-advisory-canberra-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2023\/01\/07\/champions-crowned-at-p2-advisory-canberra-international","title":{"rendered":"Champions crowned at P2 Advisory Canberra International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-standard-landscape wp-image-18168 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2023\/01\/Marton-Fucsovics-HUN-5-700x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2023\/01\/Marton-Fucsovics-HUN-5-700x450.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2023\/01\/Marton-Fucsovics-HUN-5-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/files\/2023\/01\/Marton-Fucsovics-HUN-5-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>P<sup>2<\/sup> Advisory<\/strong> <strong>Canberra International<\/strong>, the ACT\u2019s premier international tennis event, made a long-awaited return to the <strong>Canberra Tennis Centre <\/strong>after a three year hiatus to bushfire activity and Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s Single Final saw a battle of the brits with <strong>Katie Boulter (GBR) <\/strong>defeating <strong>Jodie Burrage (GBR)<\/strong> in a closely fought match in front of a sold out crowd.<\/p>\n<p>At 26 Boulter is one of Great Britain\u2019s rising stars. \u00a0Boulter has a career high ranking of #82 in the world and is coming off the back of solid performances in 2022 where she reached the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> round of her home grand slam in Wimbledon and also defeated top 10 ranked Karolina Pliskova at Eastbourne in the lead up to Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>Boulter entered the P<sup>2<\/sup> Advisory Canberra International as the eighth seed and ranked #136.\u00a0\u00a0 She has been incredibly impressive this week not dropping a single set enroute to the final, and only dropping a total of 14 games with straight set wins over Korea\u2019s Na-Lae Han and then Selekhmeteva. Boulter had an impressive win over compatriot Heather Watson in the quarterfinal before defeating America\u2019s Hayley Baptiste in the semifinal yesterday.\u00a0 She was crowned champion today after defeating Burrage.<\/p>\n<p>Boutler said she had to dig deep for the final \u201cI thought it was a really good match from both of us. I knew I had to dig deep and it wasn&#8217;t always going to be pretty tennis, but I found a way to do it and I&#8217;m super proud of myself today\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It was a first time for Boutler in the capital, and said she will return \u201cI absolutely love it here! From Next Gen, to the massage and physio, to the hotels and the city itself, I look forward to returning\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the Men\u2019s Singles <strong>Marton Fucsovics<\/strong> (HUN) claimed the tile, defeating Leandro Riedi (SUI) 7-5 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Fucsovics is one of the most experienced players on the ATP Tour and has been ranked in the world\u2019s top 100 for many years.\u00a0 The 30 year old has a career high ranking of #31 and is currently #87 in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Fucsovics arrived in Canberra as the top seed and won his opening round against rising Italian Francesco Maestrelli<\/p>\n<p>6-2, 6-3. He then took out another rising Italian in the second round \u2013 Matteo Arnaldi in 3 sets before his thrilling 3 set quarterfinal against Aussie Marc Polmans which he came through 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.\u00a0 Yesterday in the semifinal he defeated Japan\u2019s Yosuke Watanuki in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p>Fucsovics reflected on his win \u201cIt feels good, I&#8217;m so happy to win the title. It&#8217;s a great start of the year. I cannot wish a better week\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Fucsovics continued \u201cThis was my second time in Canberra. I enjoyed it last time I played the finals, so it was great to be back. The food was great, the hospitality and people were very nice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tournament Director Kim Kachel <\/strong>was extremely pleased with the event \u201cThe P<sup>2<\/sup> Advisory Canberra International has welcomed over 130 players from 38 countries. The crowd throughout the whole tournament has been fantastic.
