{"id":17133,"date":"2021-04-11T14:39:37","date_gmt":"2021-04-11T04:39:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=17133"},"modified":"2021-04-11T14:41:45","modified_gmt":"2021-04-11T04:41:45","slug":"australias-top-12-u-and-14-u-claycourt-champions-crowned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2021\/04\/11\/australias-top-12-u-and-14-u-claycourt-champions-crowned","title":{"rendered":"Australia\u2019s top 12\/u and 14\/u Claycourt Champions crowned \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The past week has seen Australia\u2019s most promising <strong>12\/u <\/strong>and <strong>14\/u<\/strong> juniors battling it out in <strong>Canberra<\/strong> for the <strong>2021 Australian Junior Claycourt Championships presented by Kia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The singles finals for the 12\/u and 14\/u boys and girls were played today at <strong>Canberra Tennis Centre<\/strong>, whilst the doubles champions we\u2019re decided yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>In the singles championship <strong>Cruz Hewitt<\/strong> (VIC) and <strong>Tahlia Kokkinis<\/strong> (QLD) claimed the 12\/u titles, whilst <strong>Charlie Camus<\/strong> (ACT) and <strong>Lily Taylor<\/strong> (QLD) claimed the 14\/u championships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has had a fantastic time here in Canberra this week, the capital has turned on great weather and all the players, parents and coaches have enjoyed being together once again at a national championships for the first time in 15 months.\u201d Tournament Director <strong>Francis Soyer<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlayers competed in five highly competitive singles matches, as well as doubles and mixed doubles matches this week, giving them a great benchmark on how they compare with the best players in their age group from across Australia.\u201d Soyer continued.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis ACT <strong>Kim Kachel<\/strong> said it was a privilege to host the championships \u201cIt was brilliant to host the latest edition of the Australian Claycourt Championships after a very challenging 12 months for everyone.\u00a0\u00a0 The European clay courts were in exceptional condition and the ACT and region players did extremely well in their backyard\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Kachel continued \u201cCongratulations to all athletes that competed and the very worthy winners will now be added to the trophies and join some illustrious names.\u00a0 The event also provided a brilliant boost to the local economy and businesses having so many people enjoying all that Canberra has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local player ACT Charlie Camus claimed another title, \u201cIt was great to win the 14\/u boys title, having previously won the 12\/u championships. It\u2019s been great to have the championships in Canberra, with a home ground advantage.
