{"id":17046,"date":"2021-03-12T12:00:42","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T01:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=17046"},"modified":"2021-03-13T14:20:53","modified_gmt":"2021-03-13T03:20:53","slug":"utr-pro-tour-series-gets-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2021\/03\/12\/utr-pro-tour-series-gets-underway","title":{"rendered":"UTR Pro Tennis Tour gets underway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Canberra will have the opportunity to host four <strong>UTR Pro Tennis Tour\nevents<\/strong>, which gets underway Monday 15 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UTR Pro Tennis Tour provides opportunities for players to compete in\na number of tournaments across Australia including Brisbane, Sydney, Bendigo\nand Canberra. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top female seed <strong>Abbie Myers<\/strong> (NSW) &nbsp;is joined by local <strong>Annerly\nPolous, <\/strong>and<strong> Taylah Preston &nbsp;<\/strong>(WA) in the top three women seeds.\nLocal\u2019s <strong>Alison Bai<\/strong>&nbsp; and rising star <strong>Ashleigh Simes<\/strong> will\nfeature in the women\u2019s draw.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men\u2019s draw is headed up by <strong>Tristan Schoolkate <\/strong>(WA), Australian Open wildcard\u00a0recipient\u00a0<strong>Li Tu <\/strong>(SA), and local <strong>Brydan Klein. <\/strong>Canberran, and 14-year-old emerging tennis player <strong>Charlie Camus<\/strong> will also play on home soil, using the tournament as a vital lead up to the <strong>U\/14 Australian Claycourt Championships<\/strong> that will be held in Canberra in April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The events will showcase the future of Australian tennis as many players\nreturn having competed in Canberra as part of the 12\/U &amp; 14\/U Australian\nChampionships, or been involved in National Talent Development Camps based in\nthe capital over the years.&nbsp;&nbsp; The likes of Tristan Schoolkate (WA)\nand <strong>Dane Sweeney<\/strong> (QLD) all have fond memories of Canberra, and all\nrecently received wildcards into the Australian Open qualifying events played\nin Doha and Dubai earlier this year.&nbsp;&nbsp; They all started the year with\nextremely impressive results as they transition onto the global tours.\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tennis ACT CEO Kim Kachel<\/strong> said the tournament is a great\nopportunity for players, \u201cWe are excited to get the UTR Pro Tennis Tour\nunderway this week, where we will see a host of the top Aussie players take to\nthe courts at the Canberra Tennis Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to\nshowcase Canberra, and witness some fantastic tennis. &nbsp;&nbsp;It\u2019s\nbrilliant to have five local Canberrans in the draws, and rising stars Annerly\nPoulos and Charlie Camus as they continue their journey amongst Australia\u2019s\nelite. &nbsp;Players will be competing for a prize purse of USD$25,000 for each\nwomen\u2019s and men\u2019s tournaments, making it a highly competitive series\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kachel continued\n\u201cfinals day for the UTR Pro Tennis Tour #1 will also see the <strong>Canberra Girls\nGet Active Day<\/strong> hosted at the Canberra Tennis Centre. Tennis ACT are teaming\nup with local sports to host a FREE community event aimed at\ninspiring, energising and empowering young women to be more active. Women and\ngirls will have the opportunity to try out a number of sports onsite, free\nclasses from Next Gen, Tennis 4 Teens lessons, a jumping castle, roaming\ncharacters, a fundraising BBQ, tunes from a local DJ and much more\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Canberra Girls Get Active Day\nwill be held on Sunday 21 March, 10am-12pm at the Canberra Tennis Centre<\/strong>.\nThis event will also be run in conjunction with the <strong>ACT Women in Sport &amp;\nLeadership Brunch.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entry for fans through the week is free, with\nfinals day a gold coin donation.
