Tennis ACT was saddened to hear of the passing of Christine (Chris) Fraser on Monday 27 January 2020.\u00a0 Chris was an active member of both the open and seniors tennis community in the ACT.<\/p>\n
Chris first played at the Australian Seniors Tennis Championships in an ACT team in 1998.\u00a0 She was a valued member of ACT teams in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016.<\/p>\n
After early success in 1998, it took a while before the ACT had another win in the team\u2019s event.\u00a0 Chris was a member of successful teams in 2013. 2015 and 2016.<\/p>\n
In the above picture from the 2016 National Tennis Seniors Team in Shepparton, Chris stands proud as a member of the ACT gold medal winning team, following a hard-fought final versus NSW.\u00a0 She was not only\u00a0a key team\u00a0player, but also for many years responsible for getting team members together to form the winning teams.<\/p>\n
Chris also supported Canberra pennant competitions as a player and organiser of teams, and was the manager of the ACT Pizzey Cup team on numerous occasions.<\/p>\n
Known for never being one to give up on the tennis court, Chris also fought long and hard in her battle with cancer, that finally overcame her more successfully than many of her tennis opponents could do.\u00a0 Chris passed away peacefully, with her beloved Australia Open tennis playing in the background.\u00a0 \u00a0Chris hailed from Cooma from the well-known, much loved (maybe until they beat you) tennis-keen Fraser family.\u00a0 She was a great player herself, an avid follower of all aspects of the game, wonderful supporter and superb tennis talent scouter.\u00a0 She will be greatly missed.<\/p>\n
Christine\u2019s funeral is to be held \u00a0at St Monica’s Catholic Church, 18 Deffell Street, Evatt, ACT at 11am on Saturday 1 February.\u00a0\u00a0Her daughter, Hayley, has agreed it would be a fitting gesture for Chris’s fellow tennis players to form a guard of honour at the funeral.\u00a0 Tennis players who will be attending and wish to be part of the tennis guard of honour are asked to bring their tennis racquets.<\/p>\n
