The quarterfinalists of the Apis Canberra International (Bendigo) are set after a mixed day for seeds which saw men\u2019s top seed Ugo Humbert (FRA) and women\u2019s second seed Mandy Minella (LUX) fall.<\/p>\n
World No.56 Humbert was defeated in straight sets by fifteenth seed Denis Kudla (USA) 7-6(4) 6-3.\u00a0 Kudla will now take on sixth seed Jaume Munar (ESP) who won in straight sets over Henri Lakksonen (SUI).<\/p>\n
Emil Ruusuvuori (FIN) backed up his second round victory over Jannik Sinner (ITA) to defeat No.13 seed Taro Daniel (JPN) in straight sets today.\u00a0 The 20-year-old is currently sitting at a career high ranking of No.121 and claimed four ATP Challenger Tour titles in 2019.\u00a0 Ruusuvuori will take on Dominik Koepfer (GER) for a spot in the semifinals after he ended the hopes of Australia\u2019s Alex Bolt (SA).<\/p>\n
In other men\u2019s results Soonwoo Kwon (KOR) defeated Harry Bourchier (Tas) and will play Evgeny Donskoy (RUS) who was a straight sets winner over lucky loser Zhe Li (CHN).\u00a0 Fourth and fifth seeds, Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) and Steve Johnson (USA) also won through with straight sets victories.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s matches, Ekaterine Gorgodze (GEO) caused the biggest upset of the day, defeating Minella in straight sets, 6-0 7-5.\u00a0 Top seed Patricia Maria Tig (ROU) survived a scare to overcome Australia\u2019s last remaining hope Jaimee Fourlis (Vic).<\/p>\n
Seeded players, Sachia Vickery (USA) and Kristina Kucova (SVK) both posted straight sets wins, while qualifier Chihiro Muramatsu (JPN) eliminated seventh seed Cristina Bucsa (ESP).\u00a0 \u00a0Anna Bondar (HUN) and Magdalena Frech (POL) posted convincing victories, while Ankita Raina (IND) battled for close to three hours to beat Irina Falconi (USA).<\/p>\n
The women\u2019s quarterfinals will commence at 10am on Friday at the Fosterville Gold Tennis Centre, with the men\u2019s to start at 11am.<\/p>\n
