{"id":14935,"date":"2019-04-15T14:38:41","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T04:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=14935"},"modified":"2019-04-16T19:55:29","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T09:55:29","slug":"top-8-finish-for-dwyer-camus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2019\/04\/15\/top-8-finish-for-dwyer-camus","title":{"rendered":"Top 8 finish for Dwyer &amp; Camus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 12\/u and 14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships were held in Canberra from 7-12 April with seven athletes from the ACT participating.\u00a0 It was one of the largest contingents of players from the capital at a national event, with several athletes posting career best results.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the way was Aliyah Dwyer and Charlie Camus who both reached the quarterfinals.\u00a0 For Dwyer, it was her best ever result, defeating the number 8 seed in the second round before falling to the top seed and eventual champion. Gloria Jovic.\u00a0 Dwyer went on to finish in 6<sup>th<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n<p>After claiming this event in the 12\/u age group in 2018, along with the 12\/u Australian Championships, Camus stepped up into the 14\/u age group, despite still being eligible to compete in the younger age group.\u00a0 Camus won his opening two matches in straight sets to set up a quarterfinal clash with top seed Edward Winter.\u00a0 The top seed proved too strong, with Winter going on to win both the singles and doubles titles.<\/p>\n<p>Isabella Andrews and Hugh Taylor both won their opening round matches before falling in the second round.\u00a0 Andrews went on to finish in 11<sup>th<\/sup> position, while Taylor earned 15<sup>th<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Snow won three of his five matches to finish in 18<sup>th<\/sup> spot, while Sophie McDonald and Nicholas Maleganeas both ended up in 31<sup>st<\/sup> position.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the following players who have also posted notable results over the past month;<\/p>\n<p>Anirudh Nallaparaju \u2013 12\/u boys singles winner Bendigo Gold JT and 12\/u boys singles semi-finalist Bathurst Silver JT<\/p>\n<p>Alisha Kumar \u2013 12\/u girls singles winner Canberra Bronze JT<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Camus \u2013 14\/u boys singles and doubles winner ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Hugh Taylor \u2013 12\/u boys doubles winner ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Dylan White \u2013 14\/u boys singles semi-finalist ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Aliyah Dwyer \u2013 12\/u girls singles winner, 14\/u girls singles semi-finalist and 16\/u girls doubles winner Stringlab Silver JT<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa Simoncini \u2013 16\/u girls singles runner up and winner doubles ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Ellie Koundouris \u2013 16\/u girls doubles winner ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Calllison Row \u2013 16\/u girls singles semi-finalist ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Lachlan Rowing \u2013 16\/u boys singles semi-finalist ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>Leon Hemmings \u2013 16\/u boys singles semi-finalist ACT Gold JT<\/p>\n<p>James Frawley \u2013 Mens singles runner up ACT Open Platinum AMT<\/p>\n<p>Alison Bai \u2013 Women&#8217;s Singles runner-up VIC Champs Platinum AMT and\u00a0 Women&#8217;s Doubles winner ACT $25,000 Pro event<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 12\/u and 14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships were held in Canberra from 7-12 April with seven athletes from the ACT participating.\u00a0 It was one of the largest contingents of players from the capital at a national event, with several athletes posting career best results.
