Over 800 people attended Kids Tennis Day at the Apis Canberra International with the ACT’s top player, Nick Kyrgios on hand to deliver 100 racquets to young kids.\u00a0 After handing out racquets, Kyrgios hit the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots courts with kids having the opportunity to play against the world No.36.<\/p>\n
Kyrgios who is back in Canberra after his season ended early due to injury and enjoyed the opportunity to get back on court with the youngsters.<\/p>\n
“You come here and play with the kids and you strip it all back and you play because you have fun.\u00a0 To see them out here enjoying themselves, a lot of participation which is\u00a0 good to see.\u00a0 Canberra is growing and I think tennis is growing in Canberra, so that’s the ultimate goal.”<\/p>\n
The day provided a number of activities for the kids with the opportunity to try ANZ Tennis Hot Shots and find out how to get involved in tennis locally in the ACT.\u00a0 Parents also had the opportunity to get on court with Fitbit Cardio Tennis demonstrations held throughout the morning.<\/p>\n
Kyrgios was also on site for finals day at the Apis Canberra International as he created awareness of the NK Foundation, a cause close to his heart.<\/p>\n
“It gives me something to look forward to, to know that I can make some kids happy and be a role for them.\u00a0 To get out here and hit some balls with them makes their day and hopefully gives them a dream to keep pushing and be in my position one day.<\/p>\n
“I had a vision a couple of years ago, it’s what I wanted to do.\u00a0 To see it actually happening and people being a part of it and actually getting affected by our foundation is a pretty special thing.\u00a0 I want it to get bigger and keep growing, there are a lot more thing I want to do with it,” Kyrgios added.<\/p>\n
